I have a few major grades from middle school on my transcript that let me skip classes in high school, but how do I add them? I know I have to go to the grades/courses part on CA, but I have to add my school first in the education part and that part only accepts secondary school??? HELP
You do not list your past individual grades on the common app. You list your senior year classes, and you list your GPA. If your MS grades are part of your HS GPA, then that’s a discussion you need to have with your GC. Some HS’s include MS grades in the GPA, others don’t.
Note, however, that no college will care about grades you got in MS, even if they were HS classes.
- Note that some non-Common App colleges do want middle-school grades for foreign language and math from Algebra I on. The UC system in California along with Calpoly SLO and the rest of California's CalState system are notable examples. In fact, failing to list such early courses has probably been the cause of some students being rejected from Calpoly, because they give extra points for extra math semesters.
Some colleges do ask you to list all your high school courses and grades on their applications. USC (the one in California) and MIT are two that come to mind.
If the college is a Common App college and wants these, it will be obvious in their supplemental questions.
ahhh ok tyty guys!!!
@Ynotgo - I recently read about this in the parents of 2018 thread. I had no idea we need to add them and my D has already submitted a few apps. (none in califormia). Her school also doesn;t list those in the transcript so for a few self reported schools, we just copied from the transcript. Do you know which schools need these courses reported apart from the UCs and Cal Poly.
@Pri930 We only ran across it for the California public apps. But, he did not apply to publics outside CA.
Come to think of it, he did list one 8th grade course on his MIT application, but that was an online Java with Data Structures class.
Thanks @Ynotgo . Do we need to specify these courses anywhere in the common app?
@Pri930 Not that I know of, but I heard the Common App did add something for some colleges about listing courses this year. Our application year was last year, so I don’t know.
Thanks again!
No; Common App just asks for Senior courses. To be clear, note that @Ynotgo was recounting UC and MIT, neither of which uses the Common App.
Thanks @skieurope
