Middlebury a REALLY good school

Summer is always a quiet time here on CC, so I thought I'd start a thread stating the obvious. It gives those of us hanging around for next year something to discuss in English while everyone else is stuck with the language pledge.

Hmmm. Nice try. I don’t think many current students read college confidential! They got what they needed from it. A few thoughts about why Middlebury is great: 1) I was really impressed with the success in the solar decathalon (sp?) contest because Midd was competing against universities with graduate schools in architecture, engineering etc. It sounds like they involved professionals from the community along with the students which seems to indicate good town/gown relations. And their success indicates a real commitment to the environment and to interdisciplinay approaches. 2) On another note completely, I think students really love the dining hall system because the unlimited plan allows students to eat dinner at 5:30 and then go again at 7:00 with another friend for dessert. The dining system seems to serve an important social function. And I think Ross dining hall is a great space. 3) I just noticed the minor in public health. I don’t know if it’s new but it’s another example of the college crafting/suggesting an interdisciplinary approach.

The open dining plan is definitely a huge plus from my perspective and from talking to many many parents this spring with returning students fresh from freshman year. Son would have a snack after class, go work out and then meet up with friends for dinner about 6:30 or so. So many other parents were completely freaked about how much extra money their students’ used in eating because either a) the food sucked or b) needing “a bite.” So as a parent who pays midd’s huge bill… I sure do hope that doesn’t go the way of budget cuts. It is HUGE. And I love when S tells people “it’s free.” Obviously we need to show him the bill more often!

The food at Middlebury is amazing but what really makes it one of the finest dining experiences are the people who you share your meal with. Whatever your interest you will be guaranteed a stimulating conversation :)

I disagree with Midindi; the food here is decent but not amazing. The open plan certainly is one of the many perks we have here at Middlebury but the food sometimes is good while at other times you find yourself going back and forth between Ross and Proctor trying to concoct something for yourself (I am NOT a picky eater). Also, I hate the times…
