Nineteen-year-old Nicholas Garza of Albuquerque has been missing since February 5, when he was last seen leaving a party on Middlebury's campus. His cell phone and credit cards have not been used since then. His family and friends have not heard from him since he disappeared, which is extremely unusual.

More than 100 volunteers have been searching through deep snow on Middlebury's campus for the missing student, but nothing has been found.

Search and rescue teams have suspended their search for Garza until the latest snowstorm passes, and the search and rescue operation has been reclassified as a "recovery" effort, Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team leaders said this morning.

Please keep Nick Garza's family and friends in your thoughts.

I'm so glad someone posted this. D knows Nick, who graduated from D's high school last spring (it's a small school--everybody know everybody) plus she was on speech & debate with him.

Nick's family is sick with fear and worry. He is the kind of kid who phoned his mom every day--which makes his disappearance ever more puzzling. He would not just head out w/ friends without telling someone. And he was not a major party-er as some have suggested. This is very upsetting and very strange.

Evidently he had just been watching a movie with his friends, and then left really not so late..around 8:30 or so towards his own residence. I hope so much there is an explanation and that he's ok somehow. My heart goes out to his family.
