I am a white female from New York attending a private prep (not boarding or religious school) in Albany. My school is all girls and my class size is 40. The academic environment is very competitive and the school has great connections with ivys and highly selective colleges. I’m a rising senior and looking to attend college in the fall of 2017

Interested in majoring in either Environmental Studies or Environmental Science
Hmm, your test scores and GPA are kind of on the lower middle range for Middlebury- but they are in range. Sounds like your school will be highly respected and the contacts they have will help you!
Your leadership, job experiences are pluses…also St Lawrence Book writing award is great, but begs me to wonder why with that of writing talent, you didn’t take AP English? With a great essay it sounds like you have a shot although maybe not a cinch …?? I don’t see any EC’s connecting to environmental science not sure if that would be a factor?
Most likely your school guidance counselor would be able to give you a better idea of chances as compared to past years applicants.
With an overall acceptance rate of 16%, and mostly high-stats students garnering those spots, Middlebury is a reach or a low reach for most strong applicants.
ED will improve your chances – about a third of ED applicants are accepted, though that number can be a bit misleading since many recruited athletes get in through the ED round.
Being a female from Albany, makes your chances pretty slim. The overall acceptance rate at Middlebury for your demographic was less than 10% last year. Would you possibly play lax at Middlebury? That could help a lot if you’re a recruit.
You should retake the ACT and not submit your SAT scores. They’re going to hurt you. I don’t think you’ll get in unless you can really push your community service thru Key club in your essay.
I suggest you consider some other schools. Also did you take any of the AP tests and get a 4 or 5? That would help your application.
For environmental studies, look at St. Lawrence or Hobart/William Smith. Or even go Midwestern with St. Olaf.
The 50% ED acceptance rate includes recruited athletes, who all apply ED and have over 80% acceptance rate, so for the other applicants, acceptance rate even with ED is less than 20% and you don’t make a compelling case in these posts.
Several of the posts above are citing stats for total admissions, not ED specifically. The ED admission rate is far higher. Most schools will tell you this is mostly due to athletic recruits and legacies, etc., but with rates over 40-50% it’s not all that – there is some advantage to ED as such schools. As a woman your odds are worse than men because more women apply. And your GPA and test scores are unremarkable for Middlebury. But if you’re confident in your essay and recs and it is your clear favorite school, go for it. And don’t get discouraged if you get deferred.
