Middlebury ED Sport Recruit Question

Just had a quick question! I haven’t seen many threads on Middlebury ED, so I thought I would start one up. I just applied ED last week and I’m really excited about it. I went to a small new england prep school and everything I loved about it is everything I love about Midd. I think it’s really special among LAC’s. I had a question about Early stats. I am not an athlete at all, but I know among LACs, recruitment through ED is huge. Midd has a tiny regular acceptance rate at 16%. But I read online that last year they admitted 53% of applicants ED. I thought this was a massive early acceptance. I was happy to see it but assumed it had to be central to recruiting. Anyone have any clue how many recruits are admitted ED or how they might skew the acceptance rate.

Here is the link to early stats (http://www.middlebury.edu/newsroom/archive/646969/node/504677)

Just looking for any better chance of getting in!!
thanks!

Almost all recruits are admitted ED. It’s the way the coaches man age the process. YOU can look at the athletics page and see how many freshmen are on all of the teams. Most were ED.

Don’t worry about it. If you are a good candidate, they’ll see that. And FWIW, if you are deferred to RD, they know you’re serious about Midd, so it could give you an edge in that round.

Having just completed my ED alumni interviews, so much of what is debated on here is strikes me as being of rather tangential relevance.

You’ll of course have competitive scores and have taken demanding classes- so have 95% of applicants.

So ask different questions: why should the Admissions team take you? What makes you different and your perspective unique? What will you contribute to the Midd community for four years now and 50+ years afterwards?

And don’t over-think it or over-complicate it. At 17 or 18 you’re unlikely to be the finished article, so we’re looking for potential as well as achievement.

Be your best self and see how it goes: the only way to guarantee you won’t get in is not to apply.

Something over half the ED pool is recruited athletes, most of whom get admitted, so that skews the rates for lesser mortals. It still works out to be about twice the RD odds, so if Midd is where your heart is, go for it!

I am a Midd sports recruit who applied ED! When going through the recruiting process, the coaches did not pressure me at all to apply ED. They did not even bring it up. I wouldn’t worry about because athletes are generally not pressured into ED at Midd.

If you want full coach support, it’s ED1. Either you are so smart, you didn’t need help, or so good, they’d take you whenever…Sorry but that’s not how it works.

^^
LOL…Your post should be included in the best of…

^^^ What he said…at the risk of forming a mutual admiration society…

Would Middl accept a female athlete who is not as strong on academics?

@hollywoodsign, maybe, but the NESCAC A, B, C banding system isn’t as flexible as the Ivy league AI. So, its best to assume that a recruited student-athlete would need to achieve similar test results as median range of all admitted students (SAT Mid-50% Range 1320-1510, ACT Mid-50% Range 30-34) unless you have other hooks.
