Middlebury Interview

I have interview in a few days, what would be your advice ? and how was your experience? It is my first interview, and Middlebury is one of my top choices because of the program they offer, so I don’t want it to be awkward or fail somehow…
What should I learn beforehand about college, maybe something specific?
Any advice would be helpful.

P.S My interviewer graduated the major where I am applying.

Fist, expect that the interview will be a conversation so try to contribute and hold up your end of the back and forth flow of dialogue. Be prepared to talk about the classes/subjects you love in high school and about the activities you choose to be part of outside of the classroom. The interviewer is not assessing your transcript in any way, s/he is simply getting to know you as a person- what you would contribute to the community.

You should research your intended major (or a variety of majors that could interest you) on the Midd website. You don’t apply to Middlebury through a “major” like you would at larger research type universities so it’s worth considering a range of majors . Find out what classes are required for those majors that interest you. Might want to ask the interviewer if s/he had trouble getting any classes while at Middlebury. Ask your interviewer about his/her experience at Midd, whether s/he had an significant internships or travel abroad opportunities.

Those are just some baseline ideas for gaining a better sense of what Middlebury was like for the alum who is interviewing you. Spend enough time on the website to see what is of particular interest to you personally and try to get some insight from the interviewer. Check out the clubs, community engagement etc.

Remember the hard work is done- your grades and test scores and apps are already submitted. Have fun with the interview, the stakes are actually not high at all. The interview as an opportunity for you to learn more about Middlebury and for the interviewer to meet the person behind the application recently submitted. Good luck and don’t stress!
