I am interested in both schools (Middlebury College and University of Vermont) and was wondering if any of you guys could tell me which school is better in regards to the Environmental Science(Studies)/Biology program, music program, and language program.

Also athletics/ intramural sports?

Thanks.

I don’t mean for this to sound cold or harsh, but it seems like you’re simply interested in being in the state of Vermont and not actually interested in these two schools, because if you were interested in the schools themselves then the answer to this question would be entirely evident already.

Middlebury has one of the, if not the best, language programs in the US.

I will put it to you this way… a very good friend of mine went to UVM. He is very successful as an adult. very. He was so impressed that S was going to Middlebury that he gave his permission for him to marry his daughter. While I think it might have been contingent on son graduating, I will also put it out there that son is probably not going to take said old friend up on the offer despite the daughter being very very cute indeed.

PS I believe Middlebury as one of the finest environmental studies programs in the country. It certainly was the first in the field.

^^Ergo, all UVM graduates believe in arranged marriages. What kind of school is that?

Middlebury is known to be one of the best LACs in terms of both Languages and Environmental Science. Plus, with Middlebury you get smaller class sizes and more interaction with professors. Sounds good to me!

Middlebury is much more selective than UVM, but both will give you a good education. Middlebury is like a mini-Ivy, so if you can get in there, you may not be challenged by UVM unless you get into the Honors program.

The summer immersion program is indeed world renowned

Many other colleges are as excellent, some superior in certain languages, as Midd’s undergraduate programs.
