My son was admitted - very excited. 2280 SAT / 35 ACT, 790/760 SAT IIs, salutatorian in small public school, very high GPA (not sure exactly), fantastic recs, interesting and real extracurriculars for all four years, dual citizen, interested in the world.

Advice: Do what you want to do in High School. If you are intrinsically motivated, love learning, and are intellectually curious, then you will do fine and end up in a school that you belong at. Middlebury happened to align with my interests (Geography, Spanish, and Mathematics), and that’s why I think got in.

A friend of mine got admitted 1760 SAT…i am so happy for him

Accepted!!! With basically a full-ride nonetheless.

Sat: 1810 (I don’t think I purposefully sent this in, but it was on my transcript)
Sat II: Pretty damn bad. Also didn’t send in.

ACT: 31 superscored (34 english, 34 reading, 24 math [dont make fun of me, lol], 29 science)

Extracurriculars: Captain of Mock Trial (not sure they knew this), National Honor Society, Drama Club financial coordinator, book club, culture club, etc.

Recs: One pretty standard one, another very good one

Jobs: Worked since I was 14 at grocery store to help support family

Volunteering: 100+ hours.

Interested Majors: International Relations, Japanese

Special Activities: I was sponsored as an ambassador the summer of my junior year to study animation in Japan. Can’t remember if I mentioned this within my essays, I most likely did.

Awards: Citizenship Award, Outstanding in Creative Writing, 2nd place in county-wide writing/speech competition, AP English Award, Mock Trial MVP Award, Senior Advanced Studies Laureate Diploma.

Also, not sure they knew this, but Horatio Alger Scholar and Questbridge Finalist.

Weaknesses: white, female, low standardized test scores, not exactly a superb ranking, literally no family income which might play a factor in acceptance

Strengths: compelling essays, lots of personal hardships. I had a pretty great interview as well; I think she might’ve written a really convincing report

FYI: I was rejected from Bowdoin, Davidson, and waitlisted at carleton, so this was a pleasant surprise :)

@McJayM–what was your friend’s hook to getting in?

Accepted for Feb! I am still so very shocked… My test scores are horrible.

Got accepted into Bowdoin as well! Will be visiting both campuses to decide!

GPA: 3.55 unweighted
AP tests: (5) Euro, (5) Music Theory, (4) Chemistry

Yeah…academics aren’t really my strong suit, but I had a good interview and a ton of EC’s. Heavily music-based.

Now just crossing my fingers for the luck to continue! Hopefully, I’ll hear good things from Amherst, Vassar, etc.

@Dad22D He didn’t have any hooks…he had a good high school transcript and Good essays and Recommendations…but again, everyone who applies there has these credentials, I am just happy he got in :)

An applicant who is admitted with a 1760 SAT has a hook. Did he submit his SAT I score? Or did he use the ACT or SAT IIs?

No…I dont know about SAT IIs

Flat out rejected

national merit finalist, latin awards, nhs
newspaper editor, vp of enviro club, treasurer of young dems, theater, and a lot of volunteering (including leadership) and academic summer camps/study abroad
the interview was really, really good
my common app essay was great, and i thought the supplement was good
all of my recs should have been fantastic

Honestly, I was really surprised by my rejection. I had gotten into Bowdoin the night before, so it didn’t hurt too much. Bowdoin was probably my top choice all along, but I would’ve visited Midd. I’ve since committed to Bowdoin and am really happy, but am disappointed I didn’t have Midd as an option. It seems to me my only flaw was that I showed almost zero interest besides the interview. Apparently they also really dislike my high school, but I guess I’ll never know for sure. Congrats to all who’ve been admitted, good luck to those who have been waitlisted, and those who were rejected will have other great options.

Why are many of you applying to Bowdoin? Just curious :)

Son was admitted.
SAT 2300
Math II 800, Physics 770
GPA 4.0 UW 4.6 W
He was waitlisted at Bowdoin so was very happy to have gotten into Middlebury.

@tommynine9 there wasn’t a supplement…

By supplement I meant the “optional” tell us about yourself prompt. Figured it wasn’t really optional and would show interest.
