Oh mythmom, thanks. I agree totally with your wise post, as usual. I can’t remember the name of the slightly scummy luncheonette(so labelled)on the way from Bates to Augusta with the great fried cakes, it may no longer be in operation. It was near "Frank’s Fabulous Fruited Flavors(ice cream) which I believe is kaput…

Having spent time at both Middlebury and Colby, have found Colby MUCH easier to get to from the Boston area–about a three-hour drive and the college is 2 minutes from the highway. Middlebury is beautiful but the trip there is literally over the river, through the woods, across tiny bridges, winding through adorable little towns, etc. Middlebury much prettier, Waterville more real but no picture postcard of a town. Waterville is close to Augusta (the state capital) and about an hour from Freeport, where Colby kids do plenty of shopping at all those outlets.

I think Crewdad must drive like a really old man. It’s never taken me more than 45 minutes to get from Midd to Burlington and vice versa. Then again, I’ve only driven it about 4 times. :)

PAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I spent a full minute laughing about this and the “over the river, through the woods, across tiny bridges, winding through adorable little towns, etc.” post. I love CC parents.

When I visited Colby I couldn’t tell where the town is. It must be at least 15 or more blocks away. The Midd campus merges with the town which I find more appealing.
