I have NO idea what school to choose! I absolutely love both of them! I'm gay, so people say that there might be a bigger gay population at Vassar but they also say that Middlebury is much better than vassar! I'm also extremely social so I don't want to be in a school that is all about studying and nothing about having fun. Which one should I choose?

I’ll probably be biased, so please only take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I think Midd is better in terms of academics, environment, and the overall personality/attitude of the student body.
You’d have strong gay support in either school I’d think, but Vassar has a relatively small male population. I don’t know if you’re male or female, but yeah, if you’re a dude, you’d probably have more options at Midd.
Neither school is a pressure-cooker-study school, both have strong academics (Midd’s is probably stronger) but the students aren’t just about studying. I imagine that Vassar has more “hipsters” whereas Midd has the more typical prep party scene.

None of what I’ve said is from first hand experience though, it’s just some stuff I gathered because I was deciding between the two colleges too!

I definitely recommend Midd; it has such great balance in academics, sports, social life, types of people, i.e. EVERYTHING.

Midd’s also more prestigious, but you should never choose a college based on it’s name.

Again, I really need to emphasize that I might not be providing you with accurate information! :P

If prestige is of concern, then internationally Vassar is much more well known and renowned than Middlebury. I am at Vassar, but have studied and lived abroad for a lot of my life in Europe, and most people have heard of Vassar, but few have heard of Midd. I know this because I am currently at Vassar , and my cousin went to Middlebury. Whenever we mention our schools we get very different reactions. But I would say that they are academically on the same level, though Middlebury surpasses Vassar in languages, and Vassar surpasses Middlebury in the arts.

Neither are well known internationally. There are fewer than a dozen U.S. colleges that are internationally recognized by those outside academia, and none of them are LACs. Vassar is certainly a top 15 LAC. Middlebury is a top 5 LAC. These are of course only opinions.
