Middlebury vs. Wesleyan

I am having a tough time deciding between these two schools for ED. I am interested in neuroscience and theatre. I am also very social and like to party on the weekends. I want a school where people aren't interested in grades, but, rather learning and having intellectual conversations. I play the jazz piano and really enjoy music. I would classify myself as pretty hipster (sorry for sounding pretentious).

I really like Wesleyan because of the abundant performing opportunities and intellectual student body. However, the campus is not as nice and it is about an hour and a half from my house (a little close).

I really love the Middlebury campus and love the idea of being in rural Vermont near abundant skiing, but I am wary about the preppiness of the school and the lack of theatre opportunities.

If you cannot decide between these schools, why not apply regular decision to both? Admittedly ED might give you an edge in admission but it is a binding commitment.

Sometimes it’s better to be a little unique. Maybe there will be 20 hipster Jazz pianists at Wesleyan, and you’ll have trouble getting noticed. Midd has very active theater/performing arts opportunities, and to call their student body less intellectual than Wesleyan seems a bit harsh.
Midd isn’t uber-preppy- it’s more outdoorsy and of course with the Green Mountain on one side and the Adirondacks on the other, it has a greater percentage of students who thrive in the natural environment, and fewer who feel happiest in an urban environment.
It’s feasible at Midd to ski several times a week in season. My son would do a few runs at the Snow Bowl and then go to class on weekdays, and head for the big mountains on weekends.Hard to do in CT.

After subtracting the recruited athletes from the ED admits, the admission percentage for non-recruited athletes is more or less equal to that of RD.
Water, both Midd and Wes offer ED1 and ED11. If you’re denied or deferred at your ED1 school, you can apply ED11 at your alternative.

Vassar.

Edit: OBD, you were missed. Welcome back.

I thought of Vassar too, but the OP stated elsewhere that they are from Westchester, so that would likely be just as close geographically as Wesleyan. I would say, this is one instance where Middletown’s End of the Known World vibe might be to its advantage. The difference in ambience between it and Westchester County is so striking that by the first week of class the OP will think they are a thousand miles away.

Water: are you aware of Middlebury’s Theater program and its PTP in NY opportunity.
