Midd's Endowment cracks $700 million

From Middnews:
22.7 return on investment lifts endowment to $703 million as of June 30--one of the highest rates of return of any college or university.

yes. that is indeed a fabulous news, considering that I wish to apply for ED and I will ask for loads of financial aid.
By the way, I do sincerely love Midd!

silhouette-- that figure is 2 years old!.....$ should be better now.

The 2005 factbook reports a 2005 value of 722M, excluding "life income & annuities"....and the comparable factbook number for 2004 is 665M. One possible explanation of the difference between the 700 (arcadia's number above....I also found the Middcampus reference to this 2004 number and 22.7% return....703 more precisely) and 665 factbook statistic (along with a slightly different return %) is that the larger number includes everything like annuities...just a guess. Extrapolating from this guess, the all-up value at 2005 close was probably on the order of 760M. Assuming 10% return, the trimmed 2006 value would calculate to be ~795M, and the all up value w/ annuities etc included would be ~835M...assuming I've interpretted this with and without thing correctly. I suspect the smaller values (without annuities) are more appropriate to use, because Middlebury uses them to compare to other colleges in their factbook.

check this factbook excerpt out:

ps....suspect 2006 factbook will be out soon, as the title (2006 factbook) is posted on the main IR page, but no substance posted yet:

The endowment value as of last week (October 2006) is $840 million. Good guess Papa...

here's a reference for all university & college endowments for fiscal 2005 end:

With $722M (same as factbook number) Midd ranked 80th on this list for TOTAL endowment. Of course, if one calculated endowment by number of students, the list would look differently.

Here are some excerpts from that list.

ps....arcadia....#1 S is going ED to Midd....loves the place (figures crossed), so I am glad to see that Midd has some solid backing. & in my book, 840M may not be absolutely top of the heap, but its a great endowment (~350k/student), certain to provide a tangible benefit in college experience. Always have enjoyed your Midd posts.

Thanks Papa. I hope he gets admitted, and that you get to spend some quality time in the North Woods...

right. That sounds even better.

I agree with Papa--Always enjoyed your post, arcadia..though I am a new comer.

again, i really love Midd. Nothing is too good for her.

Berea ranks between Georgetown and Tufts; anad Berry above Hamilton.
