Midsize southern university? HELP!!

I want to go to a SOUTHERN school (I'm from NY) (not like Tulane or Emory with a ton of northern kids just located in the south) with between 5,000 and 15,000 students. I'm double majoring in business and psychology.

My goal is to just make a list of decent schools that fit this description.
So far I have:

~ Duke
~ Vandy
~ UNC and UVA
~ College of Charleston
~ Auburn

What else? Thanks guys!!

College of Charleston and Auburn are on completely different academic levels than Vandy, UVA, Duke, etc. While at the latter schools one needs at least a 1400, I know many students who get in CofC and Auburn barely breaking 1000.

That might not matter to you, but just in case you didn't know I thought I would warn you.

I would look at Wake (around 4,000 but still in ACC) and William and Mary, too.

Christopher Newport. Recently got AACSB certification.

But more info about you could help us help.

boo duke.

hmm, lets see. i have no idea what your grades are but at the most competitive level would be schools you already mentioned (duke, unc, uva, vandy) and i'd add w&m to that list.

a step down in admissions i'd give you wake, usc, uga (might be too big)

and down more would be auburn, james madison, virginia tech, nc state, unc asheville

if you're looking at schools liek unc and uva, i would definately not recommend christopher newport - its basicly a nice community college.

Duke, Vandy, Wake, W&M, UVA, Davidson, UNC, W&L, UGA.

I wouldn't duke and UNC are very southern. But anyways you might want to look at a college that is not widely known but soild...Birmingham-Southern College

Southern Methodist U.

U of South Carolina (business)
U of Alabama-Birmingham (psychology and business)
Wesleyan College, GA (if you are a woman)
Sweet Briar College, VA (if you are a woman)
Salisbury University, MD (Frank Perdue School of Business)
U of Mississippi (business)
Mississippi State University

Clearly none of these colleges have an Ivy League reputation, but they have fine academic offerings nevertheless.

how about Clemson? Furman? Sewannee?

Ditto OrangeIsland and dke

I would highly reccomend UNC Chapel Hill # 27 among national universities.

awesome guys. well im a top student i think...4.0GPA UW, top 5% of class, 1370/2100 SAT (a little low but oh well), many ECs, presidencys, state and national awards, good essay writer...great recs....

so im looking for a decent school but not necessarily all dukes and UNCs. clemson was on my list since forever but with no airport and convenient transportation to speak of, that got chopped off.

think...similar to clemson. :-)

thanks!!

Auburn is similar to Clemson, I think, but it, too, is about two hours from the nearest useful airport. Alabama's business school is good, I hear. For something a bit more academically challenging, Georgia Tech is something you should look at. They are located in the middle of Atlanta right by a MARTA station, so transportation is not a problem. I don't know how good their business school is, though.

If you raise your SAT to a 1410 or get a 32 ACT you'd get a full-ride to Louisiana Tech (my lovely school).

Tech has about 12,000 students and a very Southern feel. I think 87% of Tech's students are in-staters...so yeah...it at least fits your description for size and location. Oh, and it's on the quarter system (that is a major plus for me, don't know about you).

The closest airport, though, is in Shreveport which is about an hour away.

Feenotype, the non-science programs at Georgia Tech are reportedly are not that strong, though Tech is trying to enhance its International Affairs department.

No one has mentioned Univ. of Richmond. Its on the small side but, the Robbins school of business is very highly rated.

because UR has a bagillion kids from the north - which the OP didn't want.

also, for what it is, its way over priced.

Rice is a bit smaller than you asked for, but it's a great school and on a level with Duke, etc.

Similar to Clemson: NC State, Virginia Tech, Auburn, LSU.

^ perfect suggestions. thank you.

any thoughts on NC state?
