Some of the colleges I've looked at require a midterm report... But is it really required? I don't want to go around telling my professor my whole story and why I want to leave my current institution.

Requirements don’t become optional based on your personal situation.

Well, yeah, but I’m the person who has to mail it right?

What I’m saying is that if a midterm report is required, then I don’t think the college cares if you are uncomfortable getting it, it still has to be done.

I’m not insensitive to the trials and tribulations of being a transfer applicant, D1 did it, so I know all about telling friends, profs, etc. Transferring is not for sissies ;).

Completing the mid-term report was probably the worst part of the application process for me. My advice is to either ask a TA to sign or have the professor sign it immediately after class. If you go to the professor during his office hours, you’ll have to explain why you’re asking him to sign the form, but if you ask after class, he may be too busy to ask why and will just sign the form.

Make sure that the school you’re applying to requires it. For most schools, it’s not required.

Even if it’s not required, it can still help you if your mid-semester GPA is equal to or greater than your overall GPA. Also, not submitting it may make colleges suspect that your GPA is declining.

^Not necessarily. I’d rather tell the admissions counselor that I’ll have another transcript sent once the semester/quarter concludes (a lot easier on the quarter system I’d suspect).
