midterms

how far into the semester are they? how are they scheduled? do u just like take it during the normal class time? does every class have them?

hello......?

not every class has midterms, many do, but not all, just like not all classes have final exams.

ok so when can i expect them? in class and in the exact middle of the semester?

http://registrar.berkeley.edu/GeneralInfo/stucal.html

I was on this student calendar and I don't really see any date that actually says anything about midterms. So there could be midterms, but they must be at the discretion of the instructor.

Could a current student help us, please?

It's just whenever the professor decides to have them. You'll get a syllabus on the first day of class showing when the papers and the midterms are. A lot of times there's 2 midterms since semesters are so long... and they're during class, just like a normal test. So if you split up the semester into thirds, then you can expect a midterm or a final at the end of each third.

thanks for the info, doesn't sound that bad.

Eh, it's doable.

intro chem, bio, CS, and sometimes engineering courses have midterms in the evening.

"just like not all classes have final exams"

really? yay!

Yeah, some classes don't have finals, but I've also had classes that had TWO midterms and a final! All together those three tests were worth about 70 percent of the total grade. And the final was three hours of non-stop essay writing. 5 essays in three hours sucks, mostly because even if you had an A going into it, if you eff-up your essays then you will not pass the class. Very scary.

ive had classes with 2 midterms + final, 3 midterms + final, and even 4 midterms + final

basically, a midterm will not be in the "middle" of a semester. we just like to call them midterms instead of "tests" or "exams"

Not so in my case. They were two midterms, seperated by two weeks during weeks 7 and 9, I believe.

depends on the class you take, some have none, some have 3 (or more)

just dont take the science intensive ones, and you probabily wont have 3 a semester, not including finals

Midterms are at the discretion of the professor. Some classes have them in class, others are in evenings at a pre-designated room. It just depends on the teacher. I've had math classes with 4 midterms and a final, where the last midterm falls after instruction ends (so theres no class between that and the final and a week inbetween).
