Midwest schools for music business degree

Here are a few good music business programs in and around the Midwest Region. Music Business can, of course, encompass a huge number of areas, so without knowing generally what the questioner is/was looking for, I’ll just rattle off a few. Having worked in the music industry for a bunch of years, I’ll also comment that it isn’t as hard to break in as you would imagine. I went to Southern Illinois University, by the way, and graduated from their Music Business program, which I thought was pretty good, actually!

Also, when looking for music business programs, be sure to also look for “music engineering”, “broadcasting”, “audio engineering”, and “recording engineering” programs as well. They often have different names at different schools.

Choose a music business degree program at a school where you’ll think you’ll be happy. The real successes are all up to you anyway, and NOT your school.

Here are a few to try on for size:

Columbia College
Arts Institute of Illinois/Minnesota/Wisconsin
Flashpoint Academy
Madison Media Institute
Brown College (a lot of radio people go here)
Full Sail University (Florida, but still awesome)
Southern Illinois University
Eastern Illinois University
Western Illinois University
International Academy of Design and Technology
McNally Smith
Belmont

Others worth a VERY serious look:

Mike Curb School of Music (Nashville)
Berklee School of Music (Boston)
University of Miami (Miami!)
NYU (New York)

Good luck,
Doc
