Midwest schools strong in Art

I'm planning on transferring this fall, and I want to stay in the midwest. I want to major in art, maybe become an art teacher. I don't want to attend an art school, so any suggestions of a university or private school that has a strong art program?

Thanks!

Grand Valley Michigan, Illinois State, Knox College, Northern Michigan university

If you want a strong academic program along with the studio art experience, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at WUSTL might be watch you are looking for:

[Undergraduate Art | Sam Fox School](http://www.samfoxschool.wustl.edu/artarch/undergradart)

There are some very strong art programs at broad universities in the midwest. I’d suggest you have a look at: U Iowa, Indiana U Bloomington, Wisconsin Madison, U Illinois Urbana, U Texas Austin, Ohio State, U Michigan Ann Arbor, Southern Illinois U Carbondale, and U North Texas.

Consider the very selective [School of Fine Arts at Miami University](<a href=“College of Creative Arts | Miami University”>http://arts.muohio.edu/).

If you want a smaller school, liberal arts experience with a good art department, you may wish to check out Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.

Minneapolis College of Art and Design has a decent BFA program.

^ I’d recommend Lawrence in Appleton, WI also. But keep in mind, their emphasis is more on Art History than the traditional sense of ‘art’ itself.

You might also consider Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A strong studio art department, particularly in ceramics and computer design.

what about the University of Cincinnati? we have some incredibly top-ranked design and art programs.
