I think that Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan will give you merit money.

"Lake Forest is stereotyped a country club for lazy rich kids, I wouldn't recommend it"

OK, so it has been stereotyped. But is the stereotype accurate or fair? Or is it out-of-date and reflective more of the biases of those who perpetuate the stereotype than the college itself?

Ohio Wesleyan definitely offers merit awards. My D was offered a 4-year award of $100,000+ last year (she ultimately chose to stay in the east). I'm not so familiar with Allegheny.

My gosh, your stats, intended major, a lot of things sound like my daughter, also a junior, could have posted this. (We are in Chicago too). You would likely get good merit aid from Wooster, Denison, Beloit, Carthage, Allegheny. I see a lot of kids in this area also go to Augustana, Drake, Monmouth and Milliken. I didn't like the low professor ratings at Bradley in one of the books, I think Princeton Review. Lake Forest College is too close to home for D. Knox is nice because the Amtrak line goes through there to Union Station. I don't know much about Elmhurst. Doesn't seem to stand out. My daughter received a mailing but threw it away. I don't believe Kenyon, Grinnell, Oberlin or MacAlester give great aid. Ohio Wesleyan has good merit aid but requires you maintain a 3.6 GPA, higher than most others. Daughter's #1 is Denison...excellent in her intended major with possibility of pre-med, quintessential cute college town but very close to Columbus. 30 minute drive to Columbus airport with low cost, frequent airfare to O'Hare. You've got time to get your ACT up a few points and that will help. Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I will definitely look into all of the colleges mentioned. Does anyone know any more about the stereotype of Lake Forest College listed above? Thanks.
