Midyear problem

In the first quarter, I received a 79 in intro to calculus because the grading was based on one or two tests which I did poorly on. One of the tests had one concept of odd/even functions and I got a 75 because of that. Also, the teacher graded hard with his own system of grading which wasn't made clear. A lot of students did poorly in the class as a result.
This quarter I expect to get a higher average. The college process hurt my grades a little in the first quarter but every one of my teachers graded harder than usual. I would normally get a 91 and got a 88, stuff that that.
I also spent a lot of time preparing for the sats, I took 5 sats in a row without a break, this hurt my grades a little.
I want to send a letter explaining this. Is it okay? I have a 91 honors average in the first 3 yrs. Would getting a high average in the 2nd quarter make up for this?

Sure, explain it, but I doubt it would do you any good because a lot of people deal just fine with that situation.

its always the same: you can choose to explain risking that it will emphasize your faults.
i wouldnt though, if “hard grading” is your reason.
