Midyear report and class rank

Which class rank do colleges use when evaluating your transcript: the original, or the one on the mid-year report? Which one do they report to organizations that like to rank based on rank and such? At the beginning of the year, I one person out of the top decile, but I managed to get straight-A's in a heavily weighted courseload last semester, indicating that my rank will probably rise at least one point. But will my earlier rank kill me at selective institutions? Thanks!

Bumpady bump.

I was told by my guidance counselor that midyear reports doesn’t change the GPA because they only calculate on a yearly basis but many college compute your GPA to their standards to make it fair. I have no idea if the second part is really true or not.

GPA/rank are calculated at the end of BOTH semesters. The initial rank you send is more important in the admissions process I believe, but the mid-year report rank and GPA will certainly be considered as well, assuming a decision hasn’t been made yet.

depends on your high school. if your high school GPA has first semester 12th inclluded, the mid-year IS your final rank. that is the rank the colleges will consider.
