Midyear Report Form Request

Did anybody else get this? I just got one in the mail and it just said that they want more information on me, specifically my grades from this past semester, before they give me a decision. Does this mean that I am a likely candidate to be accepted? My senior year grades were the best grades I had ever received, so I'm hopeful.

Oh and one more thing, does this mean that I cannot get a scholarship anymore? Thanks for your replies

I just got one in the mail too...I hope this is a good sign.

It's good that your senior year grades are your best, but getting this form in and of itself is not necessarily a good thing.

I got the letter too.... I don't think they would ask if they don't have the slightest chance of accepting you. I think they might want to see what you've done in your first semester, ie. did you slack off or did you work really hard.

I think schools that don't require midyear reports but then ask an applicant for it want to see how you did your first semester.

They are probably having a difficult time deciding "accept" or "reject" for you, and your midyear grades would help them put you in one side or the other.

i didnt receive one... good/bad?

:/

^ They are probably already set in their decision and don't need your midyear report to convince them one way or the other.

what exactly did the letter say for you?

thanks guys for ur response

heres some of what the letter said:

"Thank you for your strong interest in the University of Southern California and for submitting your admission application to our freshman class. We have completed a preliminary review of your application file and are writing to request further information.

Specifically, we would like to see the results of the first semester of your senior year course work before we take final action on your application."

and then it proceeds to tell you how to report ur grades online, etc...

yep i got it too...which troubles me slightly b/c i took 5 AP classes first semester, and got 1 A, and 4 B's in them...but I got an A in speech & dance...if that counts for anything. uh-oh...does this look REALLY bad?

I got this exact same form last year (Im a freshman in college now) when i applied to USC as a incomming freshman. I took bunch of college in the highschool classes, got all A's. I was really excited...next thing I find out, I got rejected. So hope you guys do better than me

ooooh dang, SK that worries me...sorry about ur misfortune..what college do u attend now?

Im going to University of Puget Sound, a small liberal arts school in Tacoma. But I hate it here so I am reapplying to USC as a sophmore transfer. Hopefully I will get in this time.

SK1, how were your other stats when you applied? btw good luck w/transferring!

yeah good luck with transferring..im also curious about ur stats

3.9gpa, 1250 SAT
Rank top 40 out of 600
Very good teacher recs
Korean, Male
One of the better, biggest public schols in Oregon, 10 ppl got into USC at my school
Tons of extracirrcular, football, extensive internship experience at Intel, community service, National Honor Society, Business Dept president, DECA chapter president, bunch of DECA awards

if anything it was my SAT score...you guys have a much better chance, last year the average sat was 1400, 4.0 gpa

is the GPA weighted?

i forgot if USC accepts weighted or unweighted gpas

To the people who did get the request, what are your stats?

I haven't gotten anything yet. I don't know if I should hope I get the request or not. My guidance counselor may have already sent in my stuff anyway, but I'm not sure. My first semester grades were pretty much on par with my first 3 years of hs, so I doubt they'd really sway the admissions officer one way or another.

I got the midyear grade request, probably because my Junior grades were really low compared to my freshman and sophomore years, but my first semester senior grades are back up to where I was before junior year, so I hope that looks good.

My stats are:
3.75 uw GPA- Its probably gone up to a 3.8 with my semester grades
4.36 w GPA- probably a 4.4 or so now
1870 SAT- 1250 for Math and CR
Rank is just outside of the top 10% of my class.... not really sure of the exact numbers at the moment

So far, I know of two people from my school who have been accepted and they were invited to one of the scholarship interviews, not sure which one. They both had extremely high SAT scores and 4.0
