midyear report grades-- how important?!

so throughout my entire high school career, i've received one B in a summer school spanish 2 class (keep in mind i'm asian so it's not my native language!). with time (lol) i've reconciled with that one B that marred my record but with finals coming up, i've come to realize that i'm gonna get the 2nd B in my career for 1st semester AP Calc BC

how much are midyear grades worth? btw, i will have all As in AP Lit, AP Macroecon, AP Bio, Journalism, and my sport.

thanks for helping with my paranoia :/

Chill. Smoke some weed (jk)
2 Bs is actually good. As long as you have a vigorous courseload. There's basically a basis to which ad coms qualify certain students who show academic consistency and excellence. You've qualified.

Like I've said before, it depends on the school. Johns Hopkins, for example, places more weigh on junior and senior grades than on other years. It can also help show an upward trend and can be a good signal that you can handle higher level work. 2B's is really good, you don't have anything to worry about. Where are you applying?

Yeah, your fine.

i'm applying to harvard yale princeton stanford columbia UCLA UC Berkeley USC UCSD

I feel your pain. I received a B in Honors Physics and am terribly frightened that I'll get rejected. Ahhh!

i just got a C+ on a midterm. My semester grade is a B, but does the midterm grade show up on the midyear report? And will it make a huge difference in admissions?

Pain felt as well. I got dual 89s :(((

yep moi aussi!

:( I got lots of Bs last term T_T I’m so worried now. i hope they don’t put too much emphasis on mid-year report.

From what I’ve heard, midyear reports are only to check that you still have a pulse and go to class. Multiple C’s (for the semester) might be a problem. Most colleges will expect a B or two with the hard senior schedule many people sign up for.

Call me Mr.9 my mid grades were
99% Personal Finance
98% Health
89 Spanish
89 Bio
89 Ap US
88 AP English
78.7 Hon AL2

Ivygolfer, I feel your pain. B+'s are the bane of our existence.

ugh. its so stressful. I really didn’t slack this semester, but i ended up with 2 Bs and 3 B+s i believe. Granted, one B was in gym… Calc BC is the bane of my existance : )

^lol me too. I did NOT slack AT ALL! It was just hard and stressful…:frowning: I think I need to learn how to work well under stress.

writer 25, to answer your question no they dont look at the midterm.

Btw respond to my thread about U of M. I am paranoid about a B- in Calc AB. I’ve always had straight A’s so I just want to know how much do grades have to drop to get rescinded?

I was a little lazy to begin the year, but hopefully it doesn’t come back to haunt me.

Yeah, I tried junior year. I just developed the worst time management known to man and all my work didn’t pay off. It was something like
9:00 start homework
1-3:00 be suspended in that strange state where you don’t know if you’re awake or asleep
5:00 go to bed
8:00 be late to school

then get detention for being late, almost fall asleep in class and finally! B+'s!

Fortunately I have improved since then. I, and all juniors, have been to hell and never want to go back.

And hitmatg,I wouldn’t worry about it. I know so many people with C’s in Calc. One B- isn’t going to hurt you at all. To get rescinded you need to start earning D’s and F’s.

Two B’s is fine.

^How about 3/4 Bs in AP classes?

thanks himatg, that makes me feel a little better. By the way, I really don’t think a B- in AP Calc will make them rescind your acceptance. It’s a tough class, and it isn’t like you are failing. I think midyear reports are more to see if you are slacking too much or something. A B- isn’t going to hurt you that much.
