okay, so my school is kind of odd, and we are on a trimester schedule... my guidance counselor said that because of this, she'd prefer not to send midyear reports - i was just wondering if this is going to be a really big deal, or if you think yale will be okay with it. i mean, my first trimester grades go up through december, and my second trimester won't end until mid-march, so the grades would only be for like a month-long period...
input?

Sending the midyear report is not optional at Yale: Yale requires that your HS send your fall semester grades as part of the RD process.

Are you saying you don't have fall semester grades? It sounds like your first trimester grades are the equivalent of your fall semester grades.

If I'm understanding your post correctly, Yale would have received your first trimester grades when your transcript was sent as part of your application process. Is this correct? If not, your counselor would clearly need to submit the mid-year report with the first trimester grades. If Yale already has those grades, I think I would e-mail Yale, explain you won't be receiving grades again until mid-March and ask how to handle the situation. Then follow up with a written letter. At the very least I would think the counselor would need to send a letter explaining that grades aren't going to be available given your school's schedule. A paper trail for your admissions file is going to be very important, so they don't just assume your application is incomplete.

I'm also on a trimester schedule, and my counselor send first trimester grades as midyear grades. force your counselor to send yours!!!

my first trimester grades have been sent - i was just wondering what people usually do, because my counselor doesn't usually deal with the schools i'm applying to. she said that if needed she could collect mid-trimester "progress reports" and send those... but it wouldn't really make much sense, as the grades would only be for about a month. but i should email yale and tell them that that's the situation? or should i just figure that they understand the trimester system?

I would do what others have advised. Call Yale admissions or email your regional admissions rep and ask what you are supposed to do re the mid year report since you are on a trimester system. I would not take anything for granted and just figure they understand your school's system, although it is probably noted in the school profile that schools send to colleges along with transcripts. But you wouldn't want not to be considered over some misunderstanding that could easily be cleared up. So call, or email and make sure.

the trimester thing is probably on your school profile, and even if it's not, they won't care whether your midyear grades are from first trimester or first semester. i wouldn't worry about it or bother calling them...

I was just looking at the form for the Common Application's Mid-Year report earlier today.
On the instructions, it says to send your mid-year grades at the end of your first semester or at the end of your second trimester. Look it up to make sure, though, don't take my word for it!
