Midyear report

Electronic Submission of the Application | How to Apply | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions

In addition to the Common Application and the required Yale Supplement, several other forms will be needed to complete your application to Yale: 2 teacher evaluations from instructors who have taught you in academic subjects, the School Report Form, and the Midyear Report Form.

I don't get a midyear report until FEbruary, so is OK that I submit the teacher evaluations and school report form in December and then the midyear report in February?

That was my impression of what I was also supposed to do…My mid year is done approximately mid Feb.

Your Midyear is supposed to be submitted later… Don’t worry about it.

Has anyone ever been accepted SCEA and then rejected because of a bad Midyear Report?

Obviously, all sorts of people and situations exist. Rescinded admissions for sure. So the answer is yes.

Now that I’ve been deferred, I’m worried that my midyear report might hurt me. Do they really have time to look at everyone’s midyear report? I sent in my 1st Q grades, and the midyear report won’t be sent til mid-late January. Does anyone know how important these midyear reports are?

Unfortunately they probably are pretty important when it comes down to the final candidates. You REALLY want to do well on the mid year, and have nothing that can potentially hold you back.

Exactly what would make a midyear report bad? I have a gnawing feeling that I may have ended up with a B+ this semester and probably another A- with A’s or A+'s in 5 AP classes. And I was deferred.

Is this something that will really hurt me? Does not having straight A’s count against you?

This midyear report is making me sick. I feel like it may be a reason for them to not accept me.

In the midyear report, there is another section for the Counselor to write an evaluation. So…the counselor has to write us ANOTHER recommendation? seems redundant, so im wondering if I’m reading the directions wrong or something.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

does the mid-year report actually help especially for (deferred) candidates with improving academic performance? i got straight A’s, so i’m hoping that’ll be a plus of some sort.

also, with the counselor report on the mid-year report, may our counselors re-re-re-affirm (in my case lol) to the admissions committee that yale is our first choice and we will attend if admitted? it seems kind of risky especially for a school official to do that because if we don’t attend then it’ll risk ruining our schools’ reputations, but from a counselor it seems to be official and not just an applicant ploy.

bump. i’m still curious about this.

“In the midyear report, there is another section for the Counselor to write an evaluation. So…the counselor has to write us ANOTHER recommendation? seems redundant, so im wondering if I’m reading the directions wrong or something.”

Yeah! Do they?

^ Pretty positively sure that they just reattach the old letter they sent and copy whatever they wrote the first time for the rest of the paper. At least that’s what my GC told me.

@chair2: it will help, but not tremendously, as most deferred EA applicants will also get good grades.

The instructions just say to leave it blank if nothing has changed, but to still sign it.
