What exactly does one put on the midyear report? If I want to submit an additional essay, should I wait until the midyear report becomes available to send it along with other updates at once, or should I just send it in now?

You don’t submit an additional essay after you send in part 2 of the application.

I was deferred; I would like to send some additional info in.

I’m a little unclear on the policy this year – in past years, it’s been suggested that deferred students just mail updates whenever. This is the first year the application seems to suggest that the preferred method is to send updates with the mid-year report.

Yea, from previous threads I’ve noticed students just sent letters to MIT sometime in January.

Although previous threads have said MIT finishes reading apps by around February 15th or something so would the midyear report be too late to send another essay?

When are you planning to send your mid-year report?

MIT goes into selection committee around Feb 15 – all of the reading is complete by that point. In an ideal world, extra essays should arrive at MIT within the next two weeks or so.

Well it says

“This online form is required of all applicants and will be available on this page in February.”

So I can’t submit it until then.

The midyear report isn’t up yet, though?

Yea, it won’t be up until February.

From Matt McGann:
So expect a more extensive blog entry on this topic soon. In the meantime, it’s fine to send updates/supplements via postal mail or email, up until early February or so.
