Since we've finished everything, I figure we can just play around and chance people for the fun of it, plus it always helps to ease (or freak out) ourselves. (In my case, freak out )

I'd say you have as good a chance as anyone, but maybe being a math-science Asian applicant might bring you down. I might admit you over me, and I got admitted. So that's that for you. Good luck! Hope everything works out for you, for the best. Hope to see you at Yale next year.

Extra curriculars a bit on the bland/weak side (Ultimate Frisbee? -_-) Strong courseload, rank, scores tho. I'd say it's up to whether the adcom has a good/bad day and your essay better be amazing if you want a real chance.

well my best extracurricular is science, and i'm from canada so i don't have siemens and that stuff... but i have like... canada-wide science fair stuff, i also sent in some research stuff which my prof said was good... oh yeah and where i come from, ultimate frisbee is BIG... our national team (which apparently is the best in the world) has over 50% of its team from my city

also, in regards to essays, do they really have that much of a bearing on admissions? how can one differentiate a good essay from a bad one? as long as it reveals your voice, your style, and your personality right? i never understood why essays were so important. of course, i still worked pretty hard on mine... but i honestly don't see what separates good from bad.... i can see why some are SPECTUACULAR and some are SPECTACULARLY BAD, but in the mid ranges... i guess that's it. i mean, as an international applicant, don't i have a huge advantage in writing essays against ESL students around the world?

Haha~ No no... Essays have a HUGEEEE bearing on admissions. Beyond transcript and scores, it's probably the most important factor. If you want to see what "good"/"great" essays look like- go pick up "50 Successful Harvard Essays" published by the Crimson. Some essays in there are simply amazing and some are mediocre. But when you read some of those essays- you will truly understand why colleges put such a huge weight on them.

Yeah, I've read that book and I've tried to write my essays as well as some of those people except i try not to extend my essay beyond 600 words... i find it unnecessary, and possibly annoying and it's really just an indication that you can't write concisely... but in Canada, the way our english class teaches us to write is SO VERY DIFFERENT... i had to completely alter my writing style for the SAT and even then i only got an 11... it seems that the american definition of a personal essay is very different from a canadian one and i just personally have this paranoia that my difference in writing style made my essay less than spectacular
