Might financial aid lower acceptance chances?

I'm applying to Dartmouth with financial aid. Despite their need-blind policy, i think they might put my app into consideration since we're undergoing an economic crisis. Would they?

Therefore, I'm considering to withdraw my financial aid. Is it too late to withdraw my financial aid app.?

thanks.

It’s too late to do anything to affect your decision. It comes out in 2 weeks, they probably aren’t even reviewing applications anymore.

Anyway, schools that say they are need blind almost always are. Especially being an Ivy League school, I highly doubt they secretly marked you down for needing aid.

Actually, I think that they do. If you think about it, there is no way that anyone likes to give away money when they don’t really need to. So by requesting financial aid, it lowers your chances. A school is never truly need blind. When faced with 2 equal applicants, one willing to pay 50k and another not, which one do you think the school will choose? This is America, everything is run by money. Never forget that.

That is very true, turtlecloud. Which is why the financial aid office and admissions office don’t communicate with each other at need-blind schools.

actually i’m applying for transfer, of which the deadline was only like 4 days ago; it was on 15th. could i just email and tell them to withdraw my financial aid application?

You could, I suppose. But I really don’t think you should; it’s not worth a couple thousand dollars in student debt to assuage your doubt about need-blind admissions.

Ivies tend to be the most need blind of any schools because they have lots of money compared to most colleges and are therefore more able to give generous aid. I wouldn’t worry about applying for aid. Actually I believe that the common app. omits the aid question if the school is need blind, so I don’t think the admissions people will know your applying.

yeah I agree. i shouldn’t brood over this financial aid thingy.
Dartmouth is my dream school! wish me luck guys.

thank y’all!
