@SuperGeo5999 I’m not sure yet, my final is next week, but I’ll let you know how I do. This fall I am taking organic chemistry, physics 103, and differential equations. And then I’ll be taking a computer science course in the spring. After than I’ll have finished all my prereqs and finally be ready to transfer.
Is Physics 103 Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Or Mechanics? I assume you have already have taken some kind of calculus based physics by now if you’ve taken calculus 2 and finishing calculus 3 now!
I would definitely review and practice on EdReady all summer. I would not suggest taking two math classes in the same semester until you’ve done better while taking one math class at a time. I know if you pack more classes into your schedule you can finish faster, but it’s not a race. Go at the right pace for you.
I completely understand OP’s point. I’m a transfer student from CC with a GPA of 3.93, and I thought about giving up on a STEM path when I’ve got a B in General Physics (natural sciences have never been my strong point). Many people think that a STEM major should get a straight A in in every math, comp. science/programming, physics or chemistry course out there, but that’s just far away from reality. I know brilliant people who excel at one thing but are average in another; engineers who are really good doing physics problems, but they kind of suck as coders, or the opposite.
I think most of STEM courses you take during the first years in college are irrelevant (you’ll forget everything as soon as the semester is over), the purpose of it all is wiring up your brain so that you think well when you’re presented later with problems related to your major. So, don’t get discouraged, just don’t flunk any math courses and be really good in the subjects that really interest you. Good luck!
@SuperGeo5999 I’m a mechanical engineering major. OP I don’t remember what you said your major was but just in case its engineering just remember that this major requires you to have in-depth knowledge in multiple fields (Math/Chemistry/Physics/etc) no one is gonna expect you that have a mastery of everyone of these fields. If you aren’t great at math don’t worry, work you butt off and get some C’s and B’s in math and make A’s in your other prereqs and classes. You’ll still get into a decent transfer school. Like I said some stem majors require you to know things from multiple fields no one will expect you to master everyone of these fields. Just learn what you’ll need from each class and Excel in the ones you love. Everyone of us have a field we’re weak in, for example I am weak in chemistry I pulled off a B in it and I’m so glad I’ll never have to take Chem again. Lol
Oh, no, don’t give up on STEM. Don’t get discouraged. You have still a lot of math courses ahead of you. But you may rethink your studying habits. And no need to take the class again if you get a C.
@SuperGeo5999 It should be dynamics, I know we will cover wave motion, optics, relativity, and a few other topics. It is my last physics requirement.
@Herokid11 yes i’m wanting to study Civil or Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Zoology, or Geology/Earth Science which all require a significant amount of math or math though atleast calculus II. I need to work my tail off to get the best GPA I can, I want my GPA to be atleast a 3.0 or maybe a 3.5 or above by the time I transfer out so I can get into Purdue because the other colleges in Indiana don’t offer as many courses or other majors to minor in as Purdue does. Purdue is a top school for Engineering!
Better get those grades up then. Time to stop wasting time on a forum and get better grades in a remedial class.
@Bobbybob444555 the semester is over!
Not everything has to have an exclamation point! Good tip there for when you take english. @SuperGeo5999
Bobby, Are you an English major?
Bobby’s a high school freshman.
@NASA2014 You don’t have to be an English major to know not everything ends with an exclamation point.
Ok I’m retaking Intermediate algebra in fall 2017, taking college Algebra and Triginometry with Analytic Geometry in spring 2018 or college algebra in spring 2018 and then Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry in summer 2018, and then taking calculus I in Fall 2018. At community college, my advisor says that they don’t offer calculus I face to face in The spring so he reccomnded that I take one of the math classes I planned for fall and the other one I had planned in the spring so since he reccomended that I decided to retake Intermediate algebra which I got a D In and do college algebra and trig either way metinoned above.
Good choice! It’s never a bad idea to retake a course. Is college algebra the same as college Algebra and Triginometry with Analytic Geometry?
Trigonometry with Analytic Geometry (precalc)?
@NASA2014 No, sorry if I confused you. College Algebra and Triginometry with Analytic Geometry are two different classes. Do you think taking a math class such as calculus online would be hard? It was the person who would expect me to be good at math at my school who Is the Pre-Engineering head who reccommended that. My school does not require precalclus as a prerequisite or even offers that class.
Where would you take Calculus online? My friend took it and he said It was fine but a lot of work! The final exam was taken in the college, not sure about the exams.
What is your current course schedule for FALL 2017?
@NASA2014 I assume somewhere through my community college but my teacher may not be anywhere on my home campus and I do not have transportation to drive to another campus. I meant to say it was the pre-Engineering head who reccomended the plan I said above. He even thinks taking calculus online might be hard.
