I'm currently studying mechanical engineering and want to go into the army for a few years after college... Will this look bad to employers when I try to get a job with my degree after my time in the military? Is not going directly into the work force after college to serve my country something that will make it tough for me to get my first job in ME since I will be three or four years out of school? Thanks in advance ;).

Being in the military takes courage, responsibility, and discipline. I see those as good characteristics in any employee.

I believe you have to sign-up for a total of 8 years in the military, in the reserves or on active duty, not 3 or 4 tho.

Sorry, I meant active duty for 3 or 4 years... after that i believe i would be individual ready researves so I would be going back to the civilian work force.

Apply for a DoD SMART scholarship.
It is like the military, but you are a civilian and can live in the US.
ME is one of fields

SMART - About SMART

It's not a disadvantage, other than you will lose several years of seniority in whatever company you work for.
