Military Brat

White

Male

I've lived all over the US, and also 3 years in Germany. I went to German school there, instead of the an American school provided by the military, and now speak German fluently, obviously.

I have about a 95 UW average, around 101 weighted.
Ranked 30/314

My SATs:
CR: 620
M: 600
W: 660

German with listening: 730 (I didn't study or anything, but I'm fluent? not sure how I did so poorly.)

Let's not talk about the ACT...

I'm a league all-star in swimming (doesn't really mean much), I'm also captain and MVP.
I play soccer.
I'm a paid court translator.
I'm a lifeguard, so I'm certified for CPR etc.

I now belong to the 300k+ income class, as my father retired from the military 2 years ago and is know a civilian physician. I will not apply for aid.

Okay, so here are my schools.

Boston University-ED

Boston College

Emerson

Northeastern

American

UVA

:( can’t get no love…

You definitely need more SATIIs and probably need to retake the SATs too. A little bit more ECs and maybe some community service hours and then I think BU would be a match.

Hahaha, yeah my friend’s that speak Spanish do poorly on spanish tests too… proof that my spanish grades should not be counted against me!
I have no idea how that 100 point GPA system works, btw…but it looks good?
I think you have ok chance at all of those schools, especially Boston University ED. But you’re problem is you could really go both ways, from the information you’ve given, absolutely nothing stands out. Your SAT’s are ok, your rank is ok, you should definitely take some more SAT II’s.
What you’re really, really weak in is your EC’s… they’re really random, except maybe for swimming, and very minimal. Doing some community service in something you’re really passionate about would be the best way to make you look a little less standard.
Of course, this could be attributed to the fact that you were always moving… I don’t know if they consider military family differently…

so basically what im saying is i have no help to offer i guess haha

thanks anyways for the advice. duely noted. anyone else?

pretty please with sugar on top?

this forum is too liberal, i probably shouldnt have put “military” in my title

come on!!!

I think that you should try and raise your SAT’s. You don’t stand out too much, but you should really try and play up your experiences of being a military brat and the experiences that you had in Germany. That is something really unique that other applicants won’t have. I think if you do those things your chances will increase imensely. Sorry I am not much of a help, I;m not too familar with these places.

btw-(both my parents were air force, so not everyone is liberal :))

will you chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/766882-chance-help-me-some-choices-will-chance-back.html

I’m only familiar with BU, BC and UVA.

BU- Match
BC- Reach
UVA- Reach

thanks you two, Kutless, you’ve been chanced back  Any others, please??

alright, I’m begging now

pretty good, maybe try raising your SAT scores. I can understand english and reading, but math needs to be higher. you have good chances! good luck!

thank you, i will be taking the sats in october, i hope the results are back in time for ED, which is Novemeber 1

yes, that ED is a killer for getting everything together fast. Yes, try that SAT before itself. Good luck on the test!

I will. I expect a decent score increase in each section, but we’ll see.

here we go

Geez, no need to bump that much =P

You and I are on a mission: To raise our SAT scores! So yes, good luck to you on that =)

Besides that, have you taken any APs or something along the lines?

And by the way, it’s cool that you lived in Germany for 3 years. I met a girl at work this summer who did the exact same =).

one thing:I’m not Mexican (I’m Puerto Rican and Mayan) Hispanic =/= Mexican (sorry I’m REALLY proud of my heritage)

It’s a great thing that you’re taking your SATs again, it’ll REALLY help you. Have you considered taking a few more SAT IIs? I can’t really say since I don’t know what you want to major in. I think the ECs you have are interesting and that maybe you should branch out a bit, or look for leadership roles.
