Hi everyone. I would like to know if there are any military college programs besides ROTC.
The military service academies.
There are schools like Norwich, The Citadel, and VMI, but do you mean military programs you can participate in at a regular school? Like ROTC in that sense? That I do not know.
There are different branches of ROTC, though.
Look into Texas A&M Univeristy Corps of Cadets. There is no military obligation and from what I hear it’s a great program.
At Military themed colleges like VMI, Citadel, and Norwich, those who particiapte as cadets are mandated to enroll in ROTC for one of the armed forces branches by college regulations.
However, one critical difference between participating in ROTC at the Military themed colleges and civilian colleges or the FSA(Federal Service Academies) is that one isn’t subjected to a military service obligation* after starting their junior year whereas that’s the case at the latter two types of institutions.
- assuming one didn't earn/accept an ROTC scholarship before junior year as acceptance means one's obligated from the getgo.
Virginia Tech also has a Corps of Cadets, besides it’s ROTC program. I believe VT and Texas A&M are the only remaining colleges with such Corps.
