This whole time I thought it was magic. I knew I didn't contact CC directly yet people kept telling me thanks & everytime, I'd say it wasn't me. You did good things BG, Momof1, momoftwins, & whoever else spoke up!

Boss - "If you call me Francis, I'll Kill you"-Psycho in "Stripes" - You should have seen the ten people turn to look at me when I laughed outloud just now. I just waved them away & told 'em to move on there's nothing for them here.

navy09mom, Remember.... Tazer... less effort.

Momoftwins- All this is what happens when Moms & Dads have had their kid fix. Happy, go nuts conversations. Look out for the blues to rear an ugly head in about say..another three weeks. Two if you're me... Then we can get back to biting off heads and spitting down necks of those who don't belong here. :)

Shedding his crusty old shell . . . . I'll have to think about that.

Along with MOT, I can quit looking at this site at anytime. Go ahead, tempt me with your inaccuracies, your pettiness, your inartful use of words, your bombastic description of military/academy life, . . .
What was that you said JM about Lauren Bacall? What about Kathryn Hepburn?

Does African Queen count as a military movie?
What about the all time greatest movie: Casablanca? There were Nazis in that movie.

gee- was it you guys with the whole internet thing too? ;) I think you are all starting to crack under the stress- bill, hang on- crew season is right around the corner. Jamzmom- lay off the wine a little! MOT: quick, send her some of those brownies! Just think- Feb is almost here- so will be the new threads about ss! and think about the foundation and naps threads once those offers go out! oh, and dare we revisit the decision thread? Nah- maybe I'll just hang here with the rest of you and a good bottle of merlot! And watch reruns of Gilligan's Island- heard there was a navy captain in that one! LOL!

I swaer Im knot imbibing. No kidding, you know what my idiot brothers did when they were here?!! I just found this about 20 minutes ago. A bottle SIGNED BY THE WINE MAKER opened.... I am sick. It had one glass left so HECK yea! I'm having it. Bugger! A client sent it to me and here I am, sick, looking at the this thing. This should have been decanted. I'm sick. I'm calling my brother in the morning.... This was done on purpose.....

I'm serious. This is some kind of insanity. Anyhow. Back to Bill & brownies. Bill, you've no idea how I've aspired to be Kate Hepburn all of my life. Here's one of hers : A Yank In The RAF.

Kate Hepburn, a nice girl from Connecticut. Rumor has it she and navy2010 went to the Coast Guard formals together back in the day when they were at Miss Porter's.

jamzmom,
I've been waiting for the right moment to share this with you. The father of a close friend and colleague of mine attended USMMA in the early sixties. At the time he was secretly married and had a child (my friend) while he was there. All turned out well, though. He graduated and today he is comfortably living in Florida.

usnamom: good thing they didn't find out - if you google USMMA a court case still comes up with a suit where a midshipman was thrown out before graduation for being married. I believe it is still a reason to be thrown out of any of the academies!

WOW! Married with a baby! Bet that guy sweated bullets the entire time he was there. Can you imagine what that must have been like keeping that huge secret to himself? Makes me wonder at how many kids have left the academy over the years due to the same circumstances. Good thing I don't have to worry about my kid. I had him hermedically (spelling? too lazy to look it up) sealed in plastic before he left.

You didn't have to seal his entire body up, only one tiny part.

Hermetically: Completely sealed, especially against the escape or entry of air. Impervious to outside interference or influence: the hermetic confines of an isolated life.
Often Hermetic, i.e. of or relating to Hermes Trismegistus or the works ascribed to him.

USNA09mom: Truth is, I will eat or drink anything that is free. Chocolates are only marginally interesting to me. My drinking arc started out with Schlitz beer [the drink of choice for my parents at the time; I don't think it is even available in Texas anymore]. When I entered the professional world, I switched to Scotch and soda. [This was my drink of choice while in a suit; when casual, I preferred Miller Lite.] After tiring of the Miller Lite, I switched to Budweiser. My Scotch taste endured except that, as I aged, it took more and more of it to have any effect. [The lament of an aging boozer.] So, currently, I am a straight hard-liquor drinker: single malt scotch on a few rocks. The beer: Lone Star, when I can find it; which, in Texas, is most everywhere that is not a chain restarurant.

I will drink an occasional red wine if nothing else is available and beer seems inappropriate [a nice meal that is not steak and sometimes, even steak]; white wine is for sissies. [Not that there is anything wrong with that!]

bossf51: if you only knew how close to the truth you are! While I may be a tad younger than Kate, I did go to an all-girls school in connecticut, and dare i say ,we got "bussed" reguarly to "mixers" at the USCGA, where we were introduced to our "coastie" for the evening- it was manditory, i must add- as it was for the coasties when they got bussed up our way! Ah, those were the days, although being a New York girl it seemed very, very odd to me, sort of like meat market mentality with white gloves (yes, the coasties had to wear them, and we even had to go for "tea"!!!) Met some really nice guys- and some real jerks too- the uniform can't cure everything I guess! Lets just say it was enough of an experience that when my daughter expressed interest in connecticut college, I steered the car away as fast as possible! Sure hope they let those kids out a bit more nowadays, and at least they admit females in now! No doubt that has made a very, very big difference!

Bz every time I see that movie I crack up...after he says that the crusty old sergeant says:"Pipe down Francis." You gotta love it.

Navy2010-they still wear the white gloves...and they still make the trip up the street to CC on occasion...

JM-The last person who said "hermetically sealed" was Ed McMahon in the old Carnac sketches on the Tonight Show...as in "hermetically sealed and kept in a mayonaisse jar on funk and wagnalls porch...since NOON TODAY!"

OMG! Boss, I have such a stitch in my side from laughing. Ya'll are something else. I know of one movie I would not waste my time on if I were you guys. That new "Alexander". What crap. Nothing but blood & gore. Val Kilmer is still sexy with one eye though. :) Its been playing for three hours now and I gave it up. Val was killed about an hour ago so it couldn't hold my interest any longer. I feel free to say that as this thread has gone way off track. Again. I didn't do it!

Hermetically. Hmmmm. I was only off by one letter. Knew Bill would save me. I guessed you for a single malt guy right off the bat & Bill, "tiny part"? I'm not even gonna go there except to tell you that my kid would be hurt by your comment. Its a guy thing. LOL

Navy2010, I met a lady the other day from L I who told me she and her friends used to do the same at KP mixers. The stories she told cannot be repeated here but she told me she & her friends were alittle "mean" to the Plebes, knowing they were dying for female companionship. I'm telling ya, tazers are the way to go. When a Plebe gets to close, no need to be mean, just ZAP! and they'll step back. Night all!

...okay, so my friend, whose father graduated from KP, graduated from Connecticut College and her brother-in-law was supe at USCGA. My mid said they call some girls "mid-hounds." I don't quite know what that means...

Thats what I hear. I didn't watch it because of the bad reviews. There is a website called IMDB that gives ratings to each movie. It is the best website for movies. Type in any movie that you might want to see and you will get a score out of 10. Anything above a 6 is worth seeing. Trust me.

numberone, from this day forward, I'll always check out that site. Thanks.

Boss, that jumping back & forth really got on my last nerve. Got up once to make tea & when I came back, I was totally lost. And it had such promise with Anthony Hopkins too. I had to laugh and guess that he needed another manor house so made this movie for some bling to buy one. Couldn't have been for the script. Jamz asked how we liked it because the subject matter from this movie is right up his little history alley and he was dying to see it. I told him he isn't allowed to watch it cause its nothing but nuddie people and blood & guts.

No problem. I think everyone should check out that site. imdb.com is the best site. I always decide the movies I want to see by checking out its score.
