Hi, I’m a Korean-American with a dual citizenship in the United States and the Republic of Korea.
Due to a unique two-year mandatory military service for male citizens in South Korea, I’m debating whether I should join the service or give up my Korean citizenship and whether it will increase my chance of transferring into Wharton School of Business.
Before making any recommendation, if I decide to join the military, I plan on joining the Marine Corps Special Reconnaissance Unit which is a highly selective and challenging unit and I wonder if this unique experience will help me in anyway at all transfer into the institution I desperately desire to attend.
I have made bad decisions throughout my high school career but, straightened up, and currently have a 4.0 going in as a sophomore this school year.
So my question to you guys and girls is: should I join the Marine Corps Special Reconnaissance Unit or give up my Korean citizenship to continue my academic career without any pause?
