Millersville Univ in PA

Good academics (Biology)? How is campus Nice? Does it empty out on weekends. Anyone with info on volleyball team? Any help about school is great Thanks

My sister just toured there last week. She said that housing is guaranteed the first two years, after that you have to move off campus. she also said that all of the dorms are air conditioned, which i found rare.

when i think of millersville i think of a big party school. everyone i know that has gone there has either joined a frat and really loved the school, or wound up transfering to another school because they didn't like the area/environment... so i would think they have people around on weekends.

i don't know much about it because i haven't been there personally myself, but my sister said it seemed pretty nice.

Marion, DD and I visited in April...and I am also very familiar with Millersville from my days in college (my best friend was there). 'Ville is considered the best of the PA state schools (Penn State, Pitt and Temple are not "state" schools but are rather PA "state-related" schools). It has a top notch education program which is the very competitve (something like 10% acceptance) but other majors are excellent. We were looking into the English program at Millersville, so I'm not all that familiar with the Biology major.

We found parts of the campus to be lovely, and others not so great. We ate in the cafeteria and were impressed by the food...very tasty! You should be aware that many kids in the PA state schools do go home on the weekends, Millersville is no exception. (Two of my nieces attend East Stroudsburg). However, there is a movement to provide more weekend activities for the students. DD will have a freshman friend there starting later this month and she is planning to visit for a weekend in the fall.

Here is my earlier post about our visit (you might want to check out the "visits" thread for reports of visits to other colleges!):

I am also fairly familiar with Millersville after touring it with my daughter (twice) and my son (1 1/2 times, first was a drive through). My daughter applied and was accepted into the honors program as an education major. My son applied and was also accepted. Neither chose to attend although both thought it was a nice school.

We have kids from our high school that go to Millersville and all have gone for either Music or Music ed. I believe that their most popular major though is business. They are not known for their Science department but I remember our tour through the Science building and it looked pretty impressive. None of the kids I know go home for the weekend but we're a couple of hours from there and since freshman are not allowed cars on campus that cuts down on that habit for many.

Of all the state schools I think Indiana University of PA honors college is the best. I have only visited Millersville, Kutztown, Bloomsburg and West Chester. Up here many kids also go to East Stroudsburg, IUP and Shippensburg. I don't think any of them are bad.
