[Mills</a> College - Hellman Summer Science and Math Fellows Program, requirements](<a href=“http://www.mills.edu/academics/undergraduate/hssm/degree_requirements.php]Mills”>http://www.mills.edu/academics/undergraduate/hssm/degree_requirements.php)
Here’s what I would deduce about the program based on what I know about the school….
I would imagine that if you were planning to attend Mills as a science or math major and attended the program it would give you a jump start on the material, and allow you to interact with the faculty and staff of those departments. Depending upon the type of student you are this could be beneficial or not help you at all…</p>

<p>If you really are from New York, I can’t imagine that anyone walking on the street would have any idea what or where Mills College is. I wish I could say that Mills was the west coast equivalent to Smith… but I have never been to Smith so I have no idea.
On the west coast it’s a little different; Mills is well known especially by a select group of the population perhaps professionally that group that matters when it comes to future job opportunities or grad school…. – The well learned, professional, different, and socially innovative/inclined.
So is it prestigious?
You would have to define your meaning of prestigious. I would say by main stream standards No… Mills is not prestigious, but it’s doesn’t want or need to be, because well - Mills just isn’t main stream.
Based on the character of the school from what I have seen it is filled with genuine people seeking an education without the frills of main stream “prestigious” schools with parties and Sororities. The students see the big picture, and appreciate abstract ideas and principles. This is also evident in the pristine Art/Music departments that the school continues to support.
Here is something to think about… While most schools cut their art departments first when financial burdens arise…Mills still manages to support the Arts (what appears to be Fully). Even if you aren’t an Art major, appreciation of the arts is a must as art in science is what leads and has led to innovation. The nature of innovation is sourced from creativity…creativity = the arts. So by examining this principle we can gain a clear idea of the administrations agenda/doctrine as well.
When I was on the campus I met a lot of the students and sat in on a couple of classes. All of the classes were Humanities classes taught in a seminar style. The students were both engaged, and engaging.
Is it prestigious? If we define prestige in this instance as being NOTEABLE in the following: Socially aware, active, innovative, liberal, conscious, creative, truthful, Then YES…Mills is prestigious… Whether or not this resonates with you is another story….</p>
