Oh And I'm from a private school.

reach..it's a reach for everyone, so why ask?

What grade are you applying for?

I'm assuming that someone who's played on the varsity basketball team for 5 years is applying as a PG. If I'm wrong and he's applying for 9th grade, this is a future NBA star and Milton, the alma mater of James Taylor (if I'm not mistaken) probably couldn't resist passing up such a prospect even if he had a "pretty well interview." But that's if he's applying for 9th grade with 5 varsity hoops letters already on his sweater. If not, well, then, who am I to say? :>)

D'yer Maker -- you are probably correct regarding the varsity stuff, but just to let you know that some middle schools do call their better team "varsity" and award letters. A little different, I know! we have middle school kids here who enter 9th grade with 3 letters and having been on "varsity" basketball for 3 years already.

Dm, The ISL's do not take PG's, I think most of the kids repeat or have stayed back earlier in school.

Alex- Always ask away. That's what this site is for. What grade are you applying to? Day or boarding? I would talk to a current student or former student regarding your chances. I believe Milton admits 90 in 9th grade, something like 40 in 10th and 25 in 11th, but double check those numbers. They are a few years old and in private school time, that is an eternity. Also, if you can find someone to "champion" your application, that may help. Milton's yield for the upper school is about 150 out of 250 accepted, so not everyone who is accepted goes there and thus, there is some movement on the wait list. A few year's back, a kid in the neighborhood was w-listed and ended up getting off the list. He decided to go to another boarding school, but that shows there is movement.

I'm aplying for the 10th grade, and and come from a private school, and I will be a boarding student.
I was told 320 people applied but only 60 were gonna be admitted

thanks for your comments

Alex- 60 is much better than the 40 that I thought they admitted for 10th. How many are actually accepted vs. admitted? Also, are any other kids from your school applying to Milton? Better if the answer is no and you are the only one. Can you ask any of the powers that be at your current school to really go to the mat for you? I mean Admission Director to Admission Director or even Head of School to Head of School. IT happens all the time.

Your test scores and grades are low for Milton, if not average, but your sports should make up for them. Would you be playing basketball there? Your race (diversity) and the fact that you need no FA will also be appealing.

i'd be playing basketball there, and one question do you know wha are the average grades on ssat and previous school for a milton sudent.

Thanks

previous school doesnt matter. they actually accept more public school kids (not by a lot though). average grades is probably a 4.0 gpa (A average).

Previous school can matter; feeder schools and well-known schools definitely do. That lone fact that it's private doesn't, though.

There are many feeder, excellent, public schools.

True. There are some in Newton and Manhattan, aren't there?

oh sorry. I meant if it's not a well known private school, it wouldn't matter much

previous school doesnt matter. they actually accept more public school kids (not by a lot though). average grades is probably a 4.0 gpa (A average).

this statement is VERY misleading..they accept more public school kids by number....but they accept A LOT MORE private school kids in terms of percentage...you have to realize a lot more kids from public schools than private school apply...just becoz of the sheer numbers of public schools vs the tiny number of private schools

b'cats: You're at 992 posts. Just 8 more to roll the odometer! I know it's a school night, but you've got senioritis. I'm sure that you're up for joining the CC1K Club before the night is out! Good luck. I look forward to seeing if you can bring your A game to CC tonight....after all: no lights out, right?

it's actually a headmaster special holiday today...YAYYYYY..
