California resident, asian male, class size ~ 520, second lowest paid district in california (doubt this matters though, because it only applies to teachers)

9th:

straight A's first semester, i thought second semester of 9th grade didn't count towards class rank so i slacked off...really bad (C+/B+/B+/B/A/A/A)

10th:
European History AP: A/A (3 on AP..should i report this? i mean a 3 is basically meaningless soo..)
Statistics AP: C/B (4 on AP)
Chemistry H: B/A
English 2H: A/A
Chinese 2: A/A
Journalism: A/A
Cross Country/Track A/A

expected (i've stopped slacking off finally so school should be a breeze now)

11th:
US History AP: A/A
PreCalculus H: A/A
Physics H: A/A
English 3 AP: A/A
Chinese 3H: A/A
Journalism: A/A
Cross Country/Track A/A

12th planning to take:
AP comp gov, calculus BC, physics AP , english 4 IB, Chinese 4 AP, Journalism, CC & track

EC:
-school newspaper (guaranteed an editor position senior year, questionable junior year depending on whether our teacher feels sorry for our senior-to-be's)
-planning to start a club junior year
-multicultural club

what other EC's should i have to improve my transcript..i know my current one doesn't look that great
JV cross country and track

SATIIc math: 800
SAT physics + chem: 750+ expected

SATI: a reasonable score i would give myself would be 2100..i scored a 2000 on PSAT but i haven't started studying yet so 2100 seems fair

Coleges:
UCLA
UCSD
UCB
any good out-of-state colleges with a good engineering program & high % of succeeding in engineering when graduating (i know this expectation is kinda high...lol) that i might have a chance at

UCLA: Slight reach
UCB: Reach (engineering = lowest acceptance rate here)
UCSD: Match (engineering's pretty competitive here too)
You should get in at most other UC's though.

thanks for the advice flippy, but i have one more question

what would you consider an engineering oriented EC that would distinguish me from other students? an internship? where would i apply for one (where i would have a realistic chance of obtaining that internship)? etc.

Colleges like to see you have passion for what you want to become.

I'd say a summer program or a research institute would be fine. Plus, math club, robotics, and the like would make decent addons. How about AMC/AIME?

1.) i live around los angeles..where should i look to apply for a program or internship at a research institute?
2.) AMC/AIME looks interesting...do colleges give this a decent weight when considering you?

Yeah. I want to apply for the UC's when my time comes. I did research on the Frosh grade thing. They don't calculate it. Neither does senior year much .Just 10th/11th is called the "UC GPA" It all matters there. I'd say you have a great shot. Definitely try some more engineering-oriented EC's though. Such as.. Internships with engineering companies? Starting an engineering club? Joining some kind of club? Etc.. Many things possible. Just let your mind flow.

I know 50% doesn't seem like much, but it's just you never know with the college admissions. Sometimes the best students get rejected. Best of luck =]
