What opportunities are there to mingle with Berkeley students and other college students in the area?

Hi again. S is a Stanford student and on breaks or long weekends they have gone up to hang out. He enjoys the town and says it is a much nicer college town than Palo Alto. (Though he loves Stanford) It is not done often, but it is fun. Otherwise, mostly he has only gone up for the Big Game.

Well, I'll give my perspective as a former Berkeley student for less than a semester and Stanford hopeful for freshman admission (it's a long, complicated story). Not that many Stanford students mingle with Berkeley students, but I saw a few here and there when I was at Berkeley. There were tons of Stanford students during the Big Game. Berkeley is affordable and a good college town, but there is no Berkeley bubble (which should mean that you should walk in groups at night).

not much because you will be very busy and the stanford students are great enough as friends. you can make an effort to visit other colleges though. also sports events are good opportunity to talk with others.

don't worry, my sis goes to berkeley and i visit her 2-3 times a quarter.

My dad went to Berkley and went to the famous Berkley v. Stanford football game with "The Play" so if I went to Stanford, I know he would never let me forget that lol. Good thing I'm going to get rejected.

It's a trek -- 45 minutes or so with a car, probably 90+ minutes on public transportation by the time you make the connections, and not so cheap. You would have to take a train or bus up to downtown SF or the airport, transfer to the BART, maybe switch lines within BART, and of course get to and from the stations on either end. Doable, but not something you would do all the time.

Not as bad of a commute as I thought.

Actually, you could take the Caltrain and transfer to the BART if you’re going from Stanford to Berkeley. It’s as simple as that, but the travel time is very long.
