mini essay postcards

My daughter who's a junior, has gotten several of these little postcards which ask for essays from Chicago. She has sent back two of them after a significant delay (she's busy and they're kind of challenging). Does this mean they're pretty interested in her? Would responding help her chances? Also, how quantitive is the Economics department? I have an old economics master's degree and I really got by without alot of math. Can you survive if you think in words rather than in formulas?

Post cards can be fun. Chicago is very quantitative in econ.

I don't think its the postcards are personal. I recieved them as well however, i doubt that there is any reason they would have to recruit me. I think it may have something to do with PSAT scores. What you send back will, I assume, benefit you.
