mini fridge

can you suggest some good brands of mini fridge?

Check Amazon. They have prices, ratings, and reviews for nearly everything you would possibly need for your son’s/daughter’s dorm. Personally, I just bought the cheapest one I could find. Target is having a sale on mini-fridges and you could get a perfectly good one for around ~$70 w/ tax.

I’ve got a large one at UCLA right now I’m looking to get rid of. PM me if you’re interested.

Get the microfridge. Having the microwave helps a lot.

Renting the microfridge is a rip off unless you absolutely no way to store it in between years. I know it would circumnavigating the rules, but either getting your own microfridge or trying to hide a free standing microwave is a much more economical solution.

if money isn’t an issue get the microfridge…if you’re trying to save money or want to buy a fridge and microwave, you only have to hide them during room inspections. which are always announced i believe

you don’t have to hide the fridge (could you imagine how hard that would be haha)…you would just have to hide the microwave during room inspections which are announced beforehand by the RA’s. from my experience the RA’s don’t really care if you have a microwave so they will only right you up for one if they see it during room inspection. That being said I had a GE fridge I think i got it from walmart for $70. It’s a good investment because you can use the same fridge for all 4 (or 5) years if you need to rather than having to rent one each year.

Broseidon is entirely correct…it was way too late last night, and the “them” i used slipped past me. It’s only the microwave you have to hide (not the fridge). I’ve heard as long as you cover it, the ra/whoever is the safety inspector can’t remove off the towel, blanket, or whatever you used to make it less visible.

I had no need for an extra fridge and would honestly be too lazy/forgetful to cover my microwave each inspection. In the end, if money isn’t an issue it is entirely personal preference. Also, you can split the fridge several ways which makes things easier. On a side note, buying a new fridge and microwave is probably the better value.

I think this thread is going astray haha… OP never asked about a microwave.

besides fruit, everything else delicious which is worth refrigerating would be made moooooore delicious with a microwave. lol

Well people have brought up micro fridges…and we are just trying to point out that it may be more economical to just buy a microwave and fridge rather than renting a micro fridge

You definitely should cover the microwave or water boiler on inspection day, or put them out of sight. However make sure you are not in the room since although they are not allowed to touch anything but they can ask you to do it and they will! I was in my room in my first year and I was asked to open drawers and a lot of sniffing was done. Haha I don’t know what they expected to find or see.

@brosiedon what is cu ft you got for your GR fridge? Each room can only have 1 fridge. I think roommate info has not released yet. Do you need to make sure each year your roomates do not have it before your move-in?

I called Rieber Terrace Front desk, and I was told $75 to rent a micro fridge. Not sure if it is the fee per quarter or per month or per housing contact.

The micro fridge is $194/year plus $15 tax for the academic year: [Collegiate Concepts](http://loftconcepts.com/21/order.html)

You should definitely wait until roommate assignments are released, that way your son/daughter can get in contact with his/her roommate(s) before buying the fridge.

My fridge was 4.3 cu ft

LOL sheep55 omg hahahaha Really helpful information! Thanks guys :D

Usually, when is the inspection day?

your RA will till you, so make sure you go to floor meetings or ask your RA directly

Thanks!
Is it really restricted to one fridge per room? I just bought a mini fridge 1.8 Cu. Ft. I wonder if I can bring it anyway since I have no clues about what my roommates will bring.

One (1) mini refrigerator is allowed per bedroom, to a maximum of two (2) per suite unit. All refrigerators must not exceed six (6) cubic feet, be U.L. Approved, and be in good working condition. No more than one (1) refrigerator may be operated in any room, and may not be operated in a closet or enclosed area. Refrigerators must be emptied and unplugged during the winter recess.

That’s what the rules say. If they see two refrigerators, you will get written up, but since your fridge is so small I guess you could just hide it in your closet and cover it with your towel like the microwave. I don’t know how hard that would be though. Get in touch with your roommates though and talk with them about.
