<p>What would you recommend be the best size for a mini-fridge in a UF dorm? Also any recommendations for renters or types of mini-fridges?</p>
<p>I'm not interested in a microwave, as I know the common rooms supply one. Just the fridge. </p>
<p>If it helps, I'm staying in a Sledd suite. Does that help, size wise for dorms?</p>
<p>Size-wise, get whatever you think you’ll need. If you know you’re going to be eating primarily in a dining hall, you don’t need a huge fridge to hold a little bit of food. In my case, I didn’t get a meal plan at all - so I bought a minifridge that was four ft. tall with a separate freezer compartment to hold everything.</p>
<p>Ditto, no meal plan either. Would you mind telling me the type of fridge you purchased then, and price range wise?</p>

<p>Go to homedepot. com and search ‘minifridge’ - the first one that comes up, with 10 cubic ft., is close to what I got. Keep an eye out for sales over the summer. I got mine for about $200.</p>

<p>Most people in the dorms have 4.6-5.2 cu ft, esp if they cook or store food. I had a 4.6 or 4.8 and got it from walmart for $125. If you only want to cook drinks and stuff, then a 1.7 should be fine. </p>

<p>I’d find one used or rent it. I rented mine from Gator Rentals. Kind of sketchy, and I had to give it back at their specific location [near my dorm] and time at the end of the year, but at least it wasn’t buying a new one. What are the chances you’re going to need it in the long-term? It’s a waste to buy new.</p>
<p>It is pretty large, but it was definitely worth it. Keep in mind, I cooked all of my own food or ate out - I didn’t utilize the dining halls for meals. It’s not exactly easy to get to the grocery store, so when I got the chance, I’d buy enough food to hold me over for a couple of weeks. And, since I don’t really eat pasta/ramen/typical college kid foods, my diet involved lots of frozen things.</p>
<p>I rented a refrigerator from Gator Rentals for Summer B two years ago for my daughter. The refrigerator and service were terrific.</p>
<p>I rented the two door frost free one. It was superb. It has a large freezer section with a separate door for the freezer. That’s why it has two doors versus the ones that only have one exterior door. It kept everything frozen solidly and did not frost. It was great and I am going to rent one for my son this year for Summer B. He will be in Hume.</p>
<p>They delivered the refrigerator shortly after we arrived for Summer B. That was great so we could go to the grocery store and fill it up. At the end of Summer B they picked it up from outside the door of my daughter’s room in Jennings Thursday night of finals week at the end of Summer B. Couldn’t have worked out better.</p>
<p>They delivered it again shortly after we arrived at Broward in mid August for Fall Semester. Again, very easy.</p>
<p>At the end of Spring Semester that year turning in the unit was not as easy but still easy. All she had is go to a truck parked behind Broward and escort a refrigerator mover guy - who was a UF student - back to her room and then he took it down for her. It was easy - great fridge, easy getting it and turning it in. </p>
<p>It wasn’t a central campus location, it was as close as a truck can get to the dorm - and they took it down for her.</p>
<p>We were very pleased and I can’t imagine doing it any other way.</p>
<p>I’ve looked around in the stores and have yet to see that type of two door mini-refrigerator. I’ve seen some with separate doors for the freezer but they were way expensive and tall and skinny - too tall for the dorm room. The one we got from Gator Rentals was a great height because it just (barely) fit under the bed with the bed set at its highest. It was a little tight getting it where the door would open - but it fit and spacewise for the room was great under the bed. The compressor makes a little noise cutting of an on and that might bother a light sleeper - it didn’t bother my daughter.</p>
<p>Fall Semester she put it by the window in Broward because she had other stuff under the bed and because she thought it would be a little easier to get to - not as much leaning over. </p>
<p>So we thought renting was terrific and will do so again. I just got something in the mail. I did the deliver it, pick it up, and redeliver it option for my daughter.</p>
<p>Does each roommate usually bring their own, or share one?</p>
<p>I’ve never seen roommates share a fridge. Definitely bring your own - they’re small, and it’s not hard to fill one up with leftovers and the basic eggs, butter, etc.</p>
<p>Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Have you emailed them? We also used Gator Rentals this year. We were concerned because we could not find much about them on the internet. They were VERY hard to get in touch with the first few weeks of school. Phone voicemail was always full. Then we emailed them, and they always replied to that. They delivered the fridge when promised and my son is happy with it. We will see how pick up goes at the end of the year, but so far, I would recommend them. Good luck!</p>

<p>I don’t have that awful, disgusting, rip off of a meal plan, so I have a 9.9 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer in my room. If you are in a double, it fits fine since it takes up the same floor space as a much smaller one, its just 5 feet tall. I keep my microwave on top of it. :)</p>

<p>You can rent them from UF Housing I think and then they will just come take it away when you move out so that’s pretty easy</p>
<p>Buy a fridge. DO NOT rent from Gator Fridge (also know as Chomp Rental)!!! I wrote a check to rent a fridge and microwave before arriving to campus. They didn’t show up the first day. When they showed up the second day, the refrigerator was completely beat up with rust inside and out. I refused it. They were supposed to bring a better one the next day, but NEVER showed up. I called at least 15 times to get my money back, but they would not return it. They completely ripped me off. Don’t let them do the same to you!!!</p>
