Minimum 60 unit deadline change?

Before the overhaul in website-design, the UCSC transfer admissions site used to say that a maximum of two classes could be taken over the summer if they are needed to complete the 60-unit minimum for transfer. I checked the website last night & noticed that was taken down. I tried emailing admissions but the person who responded didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I don't think she knew that was even on the website.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If taking a class over the summer is no longer allowed, then that really sucks. I really don't think I could push it anymore next semester & I would hate to have to stay another year here (again) because I needed 3-6 units & I highly doubt they'll be accepting applications for the winter quarter since they didn't this year.

I didn't notice any change regarding this on other UC sites, but I've only seen this option on UCSC's because it's the only one I've researched an entire lot.

Thanks.

UCSC will not be accepting Summer units to fill the 60 unit requirement (new rule that has been established). I know it sucks a lot, but it is true. You’ll have to bite the bullet and take a lot of units in Spring or wait another year. I am taking 20 units this semester. It’s tough but worth it.

What kind of summer courses they don’t accept? The first summer after freshman year, the summer immediately prior to transferring or both? I heard they don’t only accept courses in your last summer before transfer, but still, you can use previous summer(s) course work :D

They of course will accept previous Summer school, that is no problem, but the Summer prior to transferring they won’t accept units. I’m pretty sure that this is screwing over a lot of people who were relying on the Summer semester to fit in those last couple of credits to make the 60 count. :frowning:
I’ve talked to a lot of UCSC reps and counselors - they have made it clear that if you don’t complete all of your IGETC and the 60 units requirement by Spring, they won’t consider you. (Maybe a few exceptions here and there, but doubtful)

This isn’t exactly a new rule its been going for a few years as budget cuts mean less people get in, they want to make sure the people they are accepting will actually have completed the minimum of 60.
