I've been reading that UPenn uses a 1-9 scale Academic Index. What do you think would be the minimum Academic Index for acceptance to UPenn? Would it be lower for a legacy? Lower for ED/Legacy? Mine comes out as a 4, but I'm legacy applying ED, does this help?

If you haven’t already, you should read through this page (including the FAQs):

I read through this before. I don’t see anything about academic index. Do you think they use it and if so, is a “4” possible for admission at all if I am legacy?

I wouldn’t bet on anyone outside of the top 10% of their class getting in, unless they’re a developmental with 8 figures attached.

^ i feel like Penn weighs class rank the most out of other top schools

^^^^^ class rank is weighed very heavily by all top 20 schools, ivy’s want kids who are around top 1-3 percent…other top 20’s want kids who are top 5 percent…

^ so if my class rank is 45 out of 500 because my school doesn’t weight and honors English screwed me (and everyone else who took honors) over… Am I screwed

I go to high school in an under represented state. And Ill hopefully get a 2300+ on my sat. Hopefully 800m 800w 700cr. So would that be enough for them to overlook it?
My gpa is 3.8

And the recs/ec’s/essays will be sweet I hope.

Would that be enough for them to overlook my class rank?

Sorry about taking this thread and asking my own question

You should be fine, 45/500 is still in the top 10% giving you a chance. My school is small and so I’m not in the top 10% rather like top 17-18%. I’m in the top 30 kids but since the class is so small percentage-wise it’s not top 10%. To be top 10% in my school you have to be in the top 15-16 kids.

I wasn’t in the top 10% of my HS class either. I had a class of about 350 kids, but my school doesn’t rank or disclose figures so it didn’t become a factor. Grades are supposed to be a big part of admissions but by no means the only part.
