I was just curious. Is it 12 units or 13 units for the College of Letters and Sciences? From the UCLA catalog, it says 13 units but people tell me it is 12 units... what IS it? Thanks in advance. =]

rule of thumb: official ucla catalog information >>>> heresay comments

13 units for full time status for incoming freshmen ppl (warning: heresay: i think 12 units for transfer students)

i thought it was 12 units. i could be wrong, but i have taken several quarters with only 12 units here at ucla...

I think 12 units to be a full time student and 27 units every 2 quarters, they do a check every 2 quarters i believe, not really sure, since engineers don't get checked...

yeah, i was on 10 units my first quarter =.='' (well 14 but the last 4 were a repeat course so those units didnt get counted) but they do the check end of winterquarter, and i had 19 so it averaged out to be alrt. i dunno what it is for fin aid tho.

It's 13 to maintain ECP. I think 12 declares you as full-time, however.

As long as you're full-time status, you're OK for financial aid. They check after fourth week (either at the end or the first day of fifth week... it depends) in regards to people dropping their classes at 4th week but reaping the benefits of grants for a full-time, 3-4 classes-taking student. If you're falling behind on ECP, you'll have to schedule an appointment with your guidance counselor either in Murphy or Campbell depending on whether or not you're in AAP. There, you tell them what you're taking next quarter... and discuss removing a hold on your account.

Yea, I dropped below 12 units to 10 units spring quarter. Don't do that fall, though, as housing confirms your eligibility during fall quarter (you need full-time status to stay on on-campus housing).
