minimum gpa for engineering honors program?

my brother is planning to apply to boulder. he wants to do engineering. he wants to be in the engineering honors program as well. what is the minimum sat and gpa requirment for the engineering honors program?

Good luck to your brother! I apologize for not answering your question directly but I think my answer may be interesting to you.

My daughter will be part of the 2016 freshman class and will live at Andrews in the EHP. She was very successful academically in H.S. She had a 4.0+ GPA, 35 ACT(you’ll have to convert to SAT, sorry).

Still, she was initially DECLINED by this honors program. She took the extra effort of going up to Boulder and meeting with them directly. During the meeting, she was told that they use an “algorithm” to help in the selection process. Based on what I heard from my daughter, it is weighted heavily on the MATH section of the ACT/SAT. She was told that her 35 ACT in Math was equal to or surpassed by most of those selected (36 is perfect score if you aren’t aware).

She was told her AP classes were only impressive if they were math related (among others, she’s taken Calc BC, Physics, Chem, Bio and gotten 4’s or 5’s on each). They mentioned that her essays were not viewed well. My daughter was told her essays didn’t show her to be ‘fully committed to engineering’ and ‘not the type of person they were looking for’. She pushed and through an on site interview, she was able to successfully persuade them to reconsider. I do not think this interview is normal but she was fortunate to get a chance.

Please do not mis-understand my comments above. I’m not trying to slander the selection process the university used. They had their reasons and they probably make good sense. My point in responding is that it’s not all about grades and make sure you care enough to write a good application as well as follow up if necessary.

Correction! She’s in the 2015 Fall Freshman class. Sorry.
