Minimum Number of World Language Credits?

I will probably only have 3 credits of World Language. Is that enough for top colleges?

I think they’d prefer 4 years, but 3 is still pretty good.

So many students in this country are taking at average 3 years, actually, that it is not actually going to be strong enough for them top ones, sadly college admissions are getting more and more competitive each year.

I personally don’t think it is enough. I strongly, STRONGLY recommend taking an AP of your foreign language you would be taking now and hopefully AP English Language, knowing those two languages at a decent amount of level…is huge.

It will not only help you for college, it will help you with your life, at a very most likely chance. Do not ever, and I mean ever stop taking any Math, Foreign Language, English, and Science courses in high school, especially for top universities.

I know that foreign language can be a pain, but you just have to practice practice practice. 4 years or more of foreign language, with AP, is highly recommended now. Make sure to take that AP by senior year.

A timeline I am doing currently now (just to give you an idea) is; Middle School, Spanish 1-2, 9th, Spanish 3-4, 10th, Spanish 5-6, 11th, AP Spanish Language, 12th, AP Spanish Literature.

Good luck! (:

Most schools only require 2 years of foreign language, but its recommended to take 3. There are only a couple of schools that require 4.

Thanks. I’m asking because I’m skipping from Chinese 2 (freshman year) to Chinese 4 (sophomore year), but if I take AP Chinese in junior year, then I’ll have too many APs (6 I think). I’ll try to work AP Chinese into my schedule, but the way I see it I won’t be having fewer than 5 APs in junior year.

You’ll have finished level 4, which is more than adequate. If you can shift one one the AP’s to senior year to accommodate AP Chinese, fine. If not, that’s fine too. I wouldn’t suggest trying to cram in 6 AP’s.
