Minimum progress requirement?

Would I meet the minimum progress requirement and maintain a good academic standing if I took 9 units in the fall, 15 units in the winter, and 15 units in the spring?

I need to drop one of my classes this quarter and its going to result in me only having 9 units this quarter. I know I need to average out 13 units per quarter every year but is it okay to go below a full time student standing? Will it have any effect on my academic standing?

According to your link, you have to be approved for part-time status if you fall below the 12 units. Minimum progress is based on your Full Time student status. Also, are you on financial aid? If so, many of the conditions for FA is that you are registered as a Full Time Student. I suggest you check with your Academic advisor and the registar. You should really try to keep that class if at all possible.

If you don’t meet minimum progress by the end of your first year, you’ll be subject to either probation or disqualification:

Okay but if I drop the class ill have 9 units this quarter and if i take 15 units for both winter and spring then 30+9=39/3=13 units average per quarter. @sopranokitty stated that:

“The degree progress average is defined as the quotient of the number of units passed during all full-time quarters from the initial quarter of matriculation at UC Davis divided by the number of FULL TIME quarters completed at UC Davis.”

Does that mean that since i have 9 units for fall (not a full time quarter) it wont be calculated in the average?
Which means the calculation will only include 15 units for winter and 15 for spring, so 15+15=30/2=15 units average?

So either way, Ill be in the clear? Am I understanding this right? The deadline to drop the class I dont want is this wed., October 29th and for many reasons I really need to drop it. I just want to make sure that my good academic standing doesn’t get effected mainly because I’m switching majors soon and one of the requirements is that I remain in good academic standing during the process. If im understanding this correctly then there shouldn’t be any problem and I’m good to go. Im going to try to talk to an adviser soon but I dont have much time to decide so I would appreciate your opinions. What do you guys think?

PS: I am not on any Financial Aid

.

Fall is a full-time quarter. Not sure where you’re getting that it’s not. The academic year is divided into 3 full quarters: fall, winter, and spring.

As it says in the link you provide:

So you should be fine regardless of if you drop to 9 units this quarter or not, provided you go by the schedule you said. I wouldn’t recommend dropping below full time unless absolutely necessary though. Also, if you want a fee reduction for dropping to part time, you’ll need to go through the registrar: <a href=“Part-Time Status”>https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/registration/part-time.cfm

Thanks for all the help guys! I managed to get another 5 unit class after dropping the class so it gave me a total of 14 units this quarter!
