So, I got waitlisted to my number one choice, UCSD. I am enrolled at UCSC and was hoping I could transfer out after fall semester. Is that a thing? Is it possible to transfer out so early or do I have to wait a certain amount of time? Also, how does this affect my credits, I assume that the credits just continue on since its the UC system.
Thanks!
UCs only accept transfers at the junior level. You can attend UCSC for 2 years and apply to UCSD, but you will be given lower priority compared to CCC transfers. It’s possible but will be more difficult.
If you wish to attend UCSD you can attend CCC and transfer after 2 years since you will be given priority and will save some money. You can even TAG UCSC as a backup.
@HeardWell At junior level? What!? Thats crazy. Is it like that for most colleges?
Some Colleges accept sophomore level transfers. All UCs only accept junior level. Also by 2 years I meant 2 years worth of credits (60 semester or 90 quarter units). If you have AP units you may apply after 1 year, assuming you have enough credits to transfer.
@HeardWell Thanks so much, that makes me feel a lot better. I should be a sophomore entering my first year of college through my AP credits and college courses.
Some UCs accept sophomore level transfers, but only for specific majors. I know UCD does (for certain majors), and others do as well. But generally, transferring as a junior is the route to take. Private schools like USC take sophomore transfers, as do most transfer-friendly private schools I think.
