I am looking to transfer to W&M for either Spring 2011 or Fall 2011. I'm currently a freshman at George Mason. What are the minimum requirements to transfer, for example what are the necessary GPA, SAT scores, etc? I am a little nervous about my grades now and I need to know how much to improve them!

improve them as much as you can =)

higher = better

A 3.5 GPA is recommended. SAT/ACT scores are required if you have completed less than one year of coursework at your current institution, and if submitted those should be in line with W&M’s typical range. Middle 50% on M+V is 1260-1430.

Admissions website for transfer students:
[William & Mary - Applying as a Transfer Student](http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applytransferstudent/index.php)

W&M encourages prospective transfers to take a wide array of courses (some math, some science, some social science, some English, etc) and to strive for a 3.5 GPA or higher. If your high school academic record would have made you competitive for admission to W&M as a freshman it is recommend to apply to transfer after 1-2 semesters. If your academic record would not have made you competitive it is best to apply to transfer during your second or third semester.

Consider coming to one of the Prospective Transfer Days this fall. They’re held on Friday afternoons and the dates for next semester will be set this summer.

Bump!

I’m considering transferring from Boston U to WM for Spring 2012. I’m a PR major though, is there anything they can do for me there with my major? I was hoping they had a create your major type thing, or something hidden that isn’t very well advertised for that major. Is their marketing program comparable to a PR image management career path?

W&M does not have a PR major. We do offer a major in marketing in the Mason School of Business and a minor in management. W&M does allow students to create their own major from the classes available at W&M but we don’t think enough PR-type classes exist to create a PR major.

We might advise you check out the course catalog ([William & Mary - Catalogs 1829 to Present](Course Catalogs | William & Mary)), especially the business courses, to see if we offer the types of classes you’d be interested in taking.

That’s what I was thinking! I was hoping to make a contact during my application process to keep in touch with throughout this to walk me through. I do know that you can get PR jobs with a marketing degree, but not the other way around which is perfectly fine. I do still want to be a PR specialist, and I really feel like WM’s program could still help me do that.

Again, we’d definitely recommend you contact our Mason School of Business offerings and contact them if you have any questions. Additionally, you can contact the Charles Center to see if a PR major can be designed. They oversee all self-designed majors.
