I would contact them as soon as the Spring semester starts, in case they somehow miss sending you the e-mail. I was talking to my son’s best friend last February or so after his first semester at IU and he said he got like a 3.85 with 17 credits. I told him he should apply to HHC, and he did at some point (don’t remember exactly when) during the spring semester, and HHC told him that they weren’t letting more people in for some reason. So he is not in HHC.

Good advice bthomp1. Thanks. maxellis, were you able to get into any honors courses the second semester of your freshman year or were they all full by the time you were officially accepted into the program?

Thank you for your interest in the Hutton Honors College.

This year, a student must have a minimum 1350 SAT (critical reading and math) or minimum 31 ACT composite in addition to either a minimum 3.95 GPA (weighted or unweighted) or top 5% class rank. Please let me know if we missed obtaining your name for an automatic invitation.

If you choose to petition, please send the following to me by March 1, 2010:

*a letter of recommendation from a teacher

*a copy of your transcript (this can be unofficial)

*a letter from you explaining why you’d like to be in Honors.

Please send all to me at:

People who are admitted after fall semester don’t have the option to sign up for full semester honors classes in the spring (they ask you to apply towards the end of january and you aren’t officially in it til mid february). You can sign up for second 8 week honors classes though.

Thanks, maxellis. I think D was hoping IF she makes the 3.7 that she could squeeze into K204 for second semester. There are still several openings in the class set aside for KLLC students. She told me yesterday that she met with a Huttons adviser and they agreed to exchange emails as soon as final grades come out. We’ll see if there’s any way to make that work, but if not at least she could get good honors course next year. Still the huge IF about the 3.7 of course.

Tulare,

Sounds like your daughter is doing quite well if she is expecting/hoping for a 3.7 GPA first semester at the school.

I got the Scholarship office to tell me the criteria. Just call and ask until you receive the answer! With my GPA 3.81 you had to have a 1500 SAT. I only had a 1400. I really can’t believe that they get that many applicants that fit the criteria!

Tulare, you can check this schedule for 2nd Eight Weeks class listings. [Special Course Listing](http://registrar.indiana.edu/specialcourse/wwwsess_sprs.html)
They have a N&M HON H205 listed 2nd eight weeks but it is full. But I’m guessing that some of the people signed up for it will drop it, as a lot of people sign up for a 2nd eight weeks class if they are taking a math class or something else tough that they think they might have to drop, and they want to make sure that they are already signed up for a worthwhile 2nd eight weeks class in order to maintain full-time status. Also, they add classes to the 2nd eight weeks list during the semester. My son got into a 2nd eight weeks honors class that was added during the semester last spring, and he will have the seven classes needed for the honors notation after Spring 2010, which is the end of his sophomore year. They lowered the minimum gpa for the honors notation to 3.4, which makes it easier to get, too.

If your daughter can get into Hutton, putting off K204 and X202 until sophomore year wouldn’t be that bad, as these classes grade way easier than K201 and X201. Last Fall semester only two people out of about 100 got less than an A- in Serex’s X202 classes. Your daughter should probably take X204 communications class in Spring, however, if she takes K204 and X202 next year so as to not take two classes with heavy group work (like the two communications and two computer classes in Kelley) in the same semester.

Another good reason to get into HHC is their overseas study scholarship program.
[International Experiences Program](http://www.indiana.edu/~iubhonor/hds/overseas.php)

Good luck in your daughter getting in. HHC has lots of benefits.
